Sending your script to Marc Blake Page 3

Of course you can teach funny.
Lesson 1 Slapstick: 1 plank 2 builders [if you can find any on a cold December morning]
Lesson 2 Mime: Start pushing against an imaginary wall with your hands.
F*cking hilarious.

Just a quick update. I write with a partner. We sent off our script to Marc on 25 November and got it back yesterday 5 December. A 10 day turnaround which I was impressed with.

I thought his comments were very good and fair. He gave an overall impression of the work and of the standard of our writing ability. He then goes through every page of your script and makes comments as necessary. He gives praise where due but if you have done something wrong he tells you so without pulling any punches. But I would say that his comments are fair and insightful.

Marc pointed out something to us which neither of us had considered and it certainly leaves some interesting room for thought for our project.

Overall I think it is a good service and worth the £60 fee easily.

Def.

Then it's decided. I'll send it to him ASAP.

I really would like his thoughts on it since it's my first script I plan to send to production companies.

Also his books were a big help!

That's it - Sit-Coms at dawn!

You'd win Dave! I've seen your stuff! Laughing out loud

You're back, Frankie! How was your holiday from the forum?

I got my scripts back last week very impressed and going to send a few more after Christmas, money well spent.

It went quite quickly really, got quite a few 'good riddance' PM's but I think it was just mis-spellings. I must stop posting so much though as I do have quite a lot of stuff 'on the go' which needs to 'get done'.

I must say that I do like the look of this Marc Blake guy and I might well send him the first episode of my one and only sitcom for his opinion. It's just hard to commit that kind of money at the mo (even £50 is a lot to me right now).

:)

You'll be glad to know that it costs £60, then. And it's going up in January. :)

Eggs are going up too, poor chickens!

I reckon the guy is worth it from the references in this thread so I will at some point stump up the sponduliks! :)

Putting up prices is always risky though, but if he stays sub £100 he should still get plenty of biz?

there are other options out there, he's not exactly the Bill Gates of script reading.

Can you tell us the other options? (with weblinks...)
:)

I think ideally you want input from Producers or others in the business but not necessarily other writers - but my stuff is at far too early a stage for sending to a Production Company and I feel it's not right for 'BSG Critique' or the '4laughs Test Bed' but it would be really useful to get some professional input - but who. It's a thirty minute script at the mo. I also need to get my two co-writers to agree to sending it out to someone, of course (if they are reading this!)

Gavin was kind enough to let me read his feedback from Marc and it seemed pretty thorough and useful. I'd say it was well worth the £60, if you are really trying to pursue your career.

So far, Marc Blake is the guy who'll get the job of reading my/our script (assuming he doesn't object to reading my/our tripe!)

<Funny image of it being returned with the £60 falling out and a note saying 'No!'>
