Perhaps he's already got wood.

Here we go again . . .
Quote: Juan Kerr @ January 27 2011, 11:13 PM GMTBollocks. Trees shed leaves and they go everywhere, and grass needs cutting. Concrete lasts for decades.
After giving this statement much thought, I think a compromise to keep the tree huggers and my types happy is to ensure the concrete is dyed green, and perhaps we should disguise all street lamps to look like trees?
I would contribute to this fascinating debate but there is not much point in arguing with people who take pride in their own obtuseness. I have signed the petition.
Well when these cuthroat companys have bulldozed every forest in England, where the hell are we going to film all the remakes of Robin Hood? That's what I want to know.
As a walker I feel strongly about this and have already signed the petition. We really need to hold on to what little wild spaces we have.

Hungary?
Dolly, no one is saying you won't be able to walk there anymore, you'll just have to pay £20 everytime. If you are that keen a walker, then this'll be no hardship to you and I'd say you'll enjoy the walk more for having invested in it. This notion of enjoying free leisure is ridiculous. Morning.
For the sake of the Nation it should become law that everyone should be made to go play in the woods every so often.
Perhaps Governments should only be permitted to 'sell' anything for the duration of their term in office.
i.e. if they were to 'sell' the forests it would be a lease only and would be for only 4 years at a time.
Much as I would like to protest the selling of the forests, I have not yet done my homework to find out exactly what is being proposed and what restrictions are being placed on future use.
I'm also getting a wee bit worried about this organization known as 38degrees, I 'joined' some time ago about one particular protest, but now 38 Degrees seems to be latching on to any political protest going on.
Quote: DaButt @ January 27 2011, 2:45 PM GMTTraveling on trains across the country, my first impression of England was that there was a lot more open space than I'd expected to exist in a land that had been settled for thousands of years.
Too many Little Chefs and Happy Eaters was my first impression of a trans-England trip.

I for one can see no problem with this.

At the Indonesian Forestry Ministry compound, there is only a statue of a tree in the grounds (no real trees at all), while inside the foyer is an ancient petrified tree stump, signed by (now deceased) dictator Suharto. England has long been funding EU projects aimed at discouraging Indonesians from destroying their forests too quickly, but Europe's demand for cheap timber products is contributing to the ongoing deforestation.
In southeastern Australia, some steel-made communications towers - usually an awful eyesore - have been camouflaged with fake foliage to look like tall pine trees. It works because they are alongside real trees.
