Save our Forests - sign here Page 2

Griff,

I signed it. I never use the forests but I fervently believe that certain things in this country are worth preserving to pass on to other generations.

Although I loathe the ConDems with a vengeance, had this been brought in by a Labour government I would have taken exactly the same stance.

What next? Wells Cathedral to Disney for an ecclesiastical theme park?

No 'amusing' remark in this reply! Come to think of it, there weren't any amusing remarks in previous posts despite what the poster might have thought.

;)

Meaningless comparison. Tesco don't have to pay for hospitals, the police and the welfare state.

If the big society goes as far as some want then neither will the Government.

Bring back bush!
Bring back bush!

I've been thinking the same thing after the last 2 years of the Obama presidency. ;)

You sick puppy, Dabutt!

Well I hope you're all (well, most of you) ashamed of yourselves. Griff starts a perfectly innocent and earnest thread and members start to deviate off-topic, make cheap and puerile jibes and generally treat a serious socio-political issue with a juvenile disregard.

It's a sad day for the BCG. And a stain on our normally impeccable moral and ethical credentials.

Just have a good, long hard think about your behaviour everyone. Unimpressed

I once wrote a protest song, and it seems a good to spread the word once again...

Look at the birds and you will see,
They live together in harmony.
Look at the doves they fly so high,
Yet humans suffer, humans die.
Look at the robins, full of colour and love,
Look at them all, sent from above.

You can listen and you can see,
What we're doing to this world,
Both you and me.
We can stop this, we can try,
Just uncover your ears and open your eyes.

Look at the flowers, that grow in the fields,
Where we play our wars and use human shields.
Look at the children that play in the street,
With guns in their hands and glass in their feet.
Look at the stars they shine so bright,
But you're polluting our eyes, blurring our sight.

You can listen and you can see,
What we're doing to this world,
Both you and me.
We can stop this, we can try,
Just uncover your ears and open your eyes.

I wrote a letter to the human race,
Informing them of their disgrace.
I asked them please if they would heed,
I need to heel, I can no longer bleed.
Look at what you've done to me,
My trees are dying and so is my sea.

You can listen and you can see,
What we're doing to this world,
Both you and me.
We can stop this, we can try,
Just uncover your ears and open your eyes.

Cool

What were you protesting against? Scansion?

(Only joking, mate, very... heartfelt. ;))

If these guys wanna cut down a few trees to make room for a hospital and school, that's no bad thing IMO.

Is this not missing the point? I don't think there's a question of changing the land use designation.

The question is whether private owners of lessees, running the forests as forests, will maintain the same access rights in practice.
(and the answer is: 'Is that some kind of a fupping joke?')

Meaningless comparison. Tesco don't have to pay for hospitals, the police and the welfare state. They just have to sell bananas, beans and HD TVs.

Far from it - Tesco's taxes and other corporations (and individuals taxes) pay for everything. The government has NO money of its (not even a penny) own - its raises revenues by taxation and borrowing - and by no other way. Check your facts.

Tesco pay for their stores - they employ people - who pay taxes too which fund everything else. They create wealth - the labour government consumed it by screwing the economy and expanding he state.

I wouldn't take too much notice of any posts made after the cocktail hour.

Bollocks. Trees shed leaves and they go everywhere, and grass needs cutting. Concrete lasts for decades.

I meant a government has to provide and run services and generally has infinite more things to do than a supermarket. That's why your original comparison was meaningless.

I never use the forests

I don't know why, but that's very funny.
