Subtlety is the FUCKIN key

Oh I agree.

Hello Radio Rejects people! Happy New Year to all. We will be starting back on Wednesday 2 February at the Albany with new Radio Rejects. If we don't get a lot of new stuff in, we may do a "best of" show in February.

If you have never sent us work before, we are looking for radio sketches that never made it to broadcast, but not because they are not funny! Please send three of your best sketches to lydia.parker27@gmail.com. We are not looking for new sketches, just sketches that have actually been sent in to the BBC and never used. Although we prefer submissions from experienced radio writers, we have had some excellent sketches from new writers.

Radio Rejects is performed by four comic actors, "radio style", script in hand. Please do come see us if you can. We're on the first Wednesday of every month at the Albany, Great Portland Street at 8PM.

Thank you again for all the submissions last year- we couldn't do it without you!

If I could remember what I've already sent (that you didn't use) I'd dig some more out. Oh well, I guess I can take the risk that I've already shown something to you and you hated it.

I don't suppose any producers have asked you who I was to give me my own series yet?

Radio Rejects is on next week 2 February, 8PM at the Albany. We got lots of good new sketches but it was all from about six or seven people! I know there hasn't been a lot to submit to lately but have a dig in your files and see what you can find. We're going to do a combo of "Best of" and new stuff this month. As usual I'll email you if you've got something on. Thanks! Lydia

Well I did start off sending you the sketches I knew 'almost' made it onto radio but I can start sending the dreck now too :)

You need to review your selection process then as I feel sure you get deluged with decent stuff from way more than just 6 or 7 writers.

Good skill tends to be granted only to the few. Otherwise there would a film called the "Magnificient Hundred".

Or people will have to lie a lot more and just pretend that their sketches were rejected.

I mean, is anyone going to check?

Good point. The lack of competition also devalues the achievement of getting something performed.

I think this is the point, Lydia. If we're playing by the rules, we already sent 'em.

Maybe it's time for a Radio Rejects Rejects night?

That wasn't quite what I meant. I meant I'd already sent the good ones that I had been told 'almost' made it in and the ones that didn't but I knew were good. All that's left is the ones I sent in and, in retrospect, were utterly understandably rejected.

I guess the next step, in the absence of open door shows, is to send good new sketches to e.g. The Archers or the Shipping Forecast so I can then pass them to Lydia when they get rejected.

Afinkawan has a point. Until Newsjack restarts, there aren't any 'open door' shows to be rejected from.

A writer who always understands why there are being rejected, there's a novelty, perhaps we should have you stuffed...

That's what I meant too - just without the eloquence.

So can we send new sketches if we feel they will be rejected ... because [sigh] they always are, aren't they?

Is anyone going along on Wednesday?
