Anyone else seen the Haddock? Is it new? Seems to be a bit like The Daily Mash but less smutty... good banter I thought. I like the Mash but it's a bit tabloid for me. This one seems to be a bit more broadsheet and completely nuts! I laughed my ass off at the story about using vegetarian canine teeth to undercut the ivory market and save elephants. Any other sites like this around?
The Haddock
Had a look for it but got bored going down the Google trail.
The Poke is good though...
And you really can't go wrong with The Onion.
I'll check out The Poke and let you know.
Preferred the poke to the haddock
I disagree. The poke is just tabloid rubbish. Like watching ITV. I prefer the haddock, it's funny without being crass. A matter of taste I guess.
benny. I presume the Haddock is your creation...

I hope not. Certainly seems bad form to come onto a website to covertly promote something and trash the superior competition while you're at it. Those would be the actions of right old toss pot, wouldn't they?
It's edited by my old boss. Just a bunch of guys from around the world submitting funny stories and ideas. What's wrong with helping him promote it? I'll pass your comments on. Chill out Dave... this is a site about comedy isn't it?

What on earth gave you that impression?
Honestly!

What's wrong is lying and pretending you happened upon something by accident then acting like the wronged party when someone calls you on it. Promote by all means, just apply a little integrity. Or don't and get treated like a shill.
Dave
To be honest, I don't know much about promotion, so I tried a different approach. Clearly it backfired spectacularily ... oops! Sorry that it came across as underhanded, definitely wasn't my intention.
I prostrate myself before you and beg for your forgiveness. I shall be larching myself with a willow branch once I've finished typing this.
If you guys have any ideas about how to promote comedy blogs and newspapers I'm all ears. The Haddock is something that I'm involed in with a bunch of writers, it's a sort of writing community we're putting together, with lots of off the wall stories. The only criterion is that the stories are clean and not so offensive that lawyers get involved. I love the onion and the daily mash, even the poke has good stuff, but it's quite tabloid. I guess we're trying to do something more akin to Monty Python, completely detatched from reality in some ways but also topical. It's getting a lot of hits but we're just trying to attract more writers and, well, just get it out there really.
Thanks for owning up Benny. It is kind of obvious when someone is promoting their own stuff. I'll move this to the 'Showcase' forum which is made for self-promoting stuff...
The short answer to your question though is you just have to keep churning out (good) stuff. People will start picking up on it and spreading the word themselves if they like it...
You're like the John-Boy Walton of the site Mark. Looking out for everyone
Cheers Mark,
Thanks for that. You bet, we're just going to keep churning it out ... It's always difficult when you start something new, but it's dam good fun and ultimately that's what it's about!
