F**king hell he's not wearing a black tee-shirt!
He's a lame stand-up, for sure.
Looks like he went down very well to me; De Niro was certainly enjoying it!
It's a bit weird seeing De Niro laughing at little old Ricky Gervais from Reading.
Quote: bigfella @ January 17 2011, 5:20 PM GMTYou book him, you know what you get.
How can they complain afterwards?
Has anybody actually complained, or is it just a lot of stuff and nonsense put about by the media?

I thought something on those same lines when the camera cut to behind Gervais to his POV. I could see all the mega-stars, some only feet away looking up at our little Ricky. Some were laughing, some were po-faced some wern't sure what to do. If I could see this RG could see it too.

It's just mad.

The latter, I would imagine. What's to complain about?
Quote: ContainsNuts @ January 17 2011, 4:53 PM GMTI thought it was a great opening monologue, Hollywood needs a sense of humour but it may have back-fired for Ricky. A few egos rattled.
Americans can poke fun at themselves. Just watch the excellent Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert for example. Many actors, politicians and celebrities have appeared on their shows and they don't hold back. But not with the same humour.
Some Hollywood actors openly found it amusing but others did not. Bruce Willis told Gervais on stage 'Some people get very lucky in Hollywood, don't they Ricky.'And Tom Hanks and Tim Allen also took a swipe at him. Egos rattled? Yes. But considering Gervais' disappointing performances in his US film roles, maybe those roles will soon be drying up after this.
The Tom Hanks and Tim Allen 'swipe' seemed good natured, rehearsed and playing along with it, to me.
I haven't seen the Bruce Willis one yet.
But I expect to think the same about that one. They do have a sense of humour.

It would be great if it did kill his film career. His best work is on TV.
A while back people were absolutely infatuated with him. All he had to do was walk on stage and talk. People were mesmerized by his accent. But I think the novelty has now worn off.
I must admit I was amused by the Hugh Hefner gag.
