You'd like the Children of Earth mini series.

Did you watch the third series yet? I didn't really like the first two runs much either.
Quote: Leevil @ January 16 2011, 1:11 PM GMTWatched the first series of 30 Rock but never caught up again.

You really would. If you don't like normal Torchwood then you'll love that series.
Quote: Nat Wicks @ January 16 2011, 1:14 PM GMTYou're right. The US has The Wire and we have, what? Silent Witness?
(
In terms of pure character drama the Bill is still way ahead. The Wire is one of those weird shows that people will be rather embarassed about bigging up in a few years. It was ok, not much more.
nb Did anyone else watch The Accused? Now that was stunning.
Let's avoid to much cultural cringe here.

You're in a vetry small minority who believe that. But it still makes me want to shin kick you.
It's so much more fun to be right and in the minority.
Than wrong and in the majority.
nb did anyone here watch Generation Kill?
does anyone here ever watch quality TV?
Quote: Griff @ January 16 2011, 2:58 PM GMTThe Bill was quite good, actually, in its time, although hadn't seen it for years before it got cancelled.
That is fair, but even in the duff years it had some awsome one offs.
In it's prime it was the same sort of light drama/comedy that like Corronation Street showed ITV had some mighty big guns.
Quote: sootyj @ January 16 2011, 3:18 PM GMTdoes anyone here ever watch quality TV?
Yep, 30 Rock, Louie, Peep Show; all quality TV.
Louie Spence?...
Pineapple Dance Studio is yet another show clearly superior to The Wire.
Louie Spence should have his own detective thriller.
Pineapple Crime Lab?
THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.

There have been some UK shows I've really liked in recent years but have to agree that on balance they appear to be doing it better the other side of the pond.
I loved Lead Balloon, I love The I T Crowd and some other recent shows too. My favourite since The Office (prepares for Gervais haters on here to turn savage) has to be The Trip but it didn't really get raves on here.
I think as has been said, the sheer volume coming from America means that what does get sent round the world tends to be high end very good stuff. Although it can be argued that as it's proven itself with audiences over there already, then it is likely to be good anyway so as they say..."No kidding! Go figure!"
One of the problems here is the number of outlets for sitcoms; for despite there being a lot more TV channels than there used to be it's still a very small number that actually commission sitcom series. Probably just the usual suspects in all honesty. It's true of course the every-growing number of independent production companies means that there are more potential places to gain initial interest in a project and to maybe get a pilot made. But it's still really Auntie and Ch4 calling the shots about what gets out to the wider audience.
It would be interesting to see what the strike rate of turkeys versus good stuff is in America. I.E. do they make the equivalents of According to Bex or Big Top?

Is exactly what his boss will say to him each week.
His boss played by Micheal Burker ala Charlie from Charlie's Angels.
He'll team up with David von Day and that bloke whoo Katie Price just dumped.
Nah, not him. He needs Wayne Sleep as the older cop he looks up to.
