Purple Comedy Autism Awareness Special

Hi,

I've just posted my special podcast on autism inspired by my autistic daughter. There's some stand up and some poems. If your life has been touched by autism or even if it hasn't you might like it.

My 14-month-old nephew is due to have an MMR jab next week. His mum (my sister) is thinking of getting him individual jabs instead. Do you have any advice on the matter?

Hi,

I wouldn't presume to offer advice on something like that. My view, for what it's worth, is that there is little connection between the MMR jab and autism but i am no expert.

Neither is the guy who did the original study.

Great idea John I admire when comedians/writers walk the walk instead of just talking the talk and tackle personal areas and topics. Definately gonna give it a listen (always do anyway) :)

Much better to jab a baby seperatley, depends where he will be getting punched. I always used to bruise my boys where it wasnt obvious. You can get into terrible trouble these days. So not the face.

Seriously though. There are some risks associated. My youngest son suffers from ulcerated colitas. Nasty disease of the bowel. Crohns is a similar disease which has been stated as a possible link to this. Your sister may have to pay, for seperate injections, but I personaly would do that. Thats a lot of stuff, in one go for his little system to handle. 3 in 1 is a governments stingy way of saving money. I dont trust them. EVER!

Yeah, I'm the same. It was strange how Tony Blair wouldn't say whether his youngest son had had the MMR or the individual jabs, when he was asked by a reporter, a few years back. He said he wanted to keep it private, but let's face it, if his kid had had the MMR, Blair would've said so.

From what I've read the campaign against the MMR jab was largely spearheaded by Melanie Phillips - a columnist whose scientific knowledge is particularly minimal. Autism rates have not changed in before or after the jabs were introduced. The scientist whose evidence it was based upon was Dr Andrew Wakefield, who had no reliable evidence to support his claims and was disregarded by the scientific community. Anyhoo, I had it and I haven't noticed anything particularly wrong...

A good show, John. Was touched by some of the points you raised. Which ain't never a bad thing.

Hi Folks,

Thanks to everyone for their support for this show. It's a lot more than just a comedy show to me as you can probably tell.

Thanks again

John
