In praise of Sir Partridge.

I know this thread has been done many times before and will doubtless be done again but after watching the re-runs of Partridge on 'Dave' just had to start this one. It really hasn't dated a single second.

Just to start it off :

When talking to two Irish TV presenters [incidentally in real life the writers of Father Ted] about the Potato famine Partridge says :

" At the end of the day you will suffer if you're fussy eaters "

Yes a great line. Partridge was of course first rate stuff, performance and scripts.

Funny.

However, I was of the understanding that Coogan steals much of his material and is not very well respected in the industry...? I've certainly heard several first-hand stories of this bent.

I wouldn't know about that.

But you watch it and listen to it and you think if it was anyone else it wouldn't quite work. He says such stupid things but it's hilarious.

I've never heard that before.

But then I'm not in the industry.

Give me ten more years of poverty and a few Masonic handshakes and I'll report back!

You're on!

My favourite thing about Partridge, is the random stuff he comes out with. Some of it isn't even funny in the slightest, but just makes me laugh, e.g. when he went to get all those unwanted copies of his book pulped, and he asked the bloke who was doing it, if the pulping place had ever been featured on 'Blue Peter'.

I'm afraid I just don't get Alan Partridge. I find I usually turn the tv off about 10 minutes into his programmes. Oh well.

partridge is wonderful. i love the epsiode where alan visits michael and michael won't let him in but he gives him a cup of beans to eat with a sausage.

It's funny how the last series, for me at least, didn't seem anywhere near as good as the one before it, when I first watched it, back in 2002. Then, as I watched it a few more times, on BBC 2 and UK Gold, I came to the conclusion that it was great.

My favourite one ever was on Dave last night!

The railing spearing his foot. Hehe.

"It's a good paper..."

On me?

Yes - I've seen thgat one 2 or 3 times recently on various stations. It's great when he's rying to do that speech and keeps on being sick.

That actually makes me feel a tad peculiar.

(Shut up.)

Like an episode of Casualty waaaaaay back years ago before it went all arty-farty and unwatchable, where a guy who'd fallen out with his daughter and so had to secretly visit his grandson, fell backwards onto a spiked fence (as he tried to climb over it into their garden, I think), it going right through his legs. Made me feel all weak and kinda queasy. Bleh.
