Where to send it.

Hello everyone,
I've been writing a sitcom and although I'm not yet satisfied with it enough to start sending it out, I've started thinking about where I could send it and to be honest, I have no idea!
Can anyone who has sent a sitcom off recommend anywhere, either where they've had some success or know of someone who has or not even that, can anyone just suggest some places that accept unsolicited scripts?

Thanks :)

A mod will be along shortly to link to some pointers I expect but my advice would be to finish your script, put it in a drawer and write at least five more before you start bothering prod co's with them. Think about it in terms of music - you've just learned guitar, you've written your very first ditty and you're already sending your CD to Geffen. Slow down and take some time to learn your craft. I appreciate fully your enthusiasm and drive but you won't be doing your reputation any favours putting your freshman work out there.

Thanks for the advice David, I appreciate any help. That leads me to another question. When do you know something is ready? I've been writing/re-writing and collecting idea for what's soon to be a year, mostly for stand-up but what I'm really interested in is sitcoms.

It really depends on the person. Some come out of the gate strong but they're really the exception to the rule; most hone their craft for years before they write anything truly decent. All I would say is, don't put too much stock in your first script. Do the very best you can with it, shelve it, and write a few more. Only then should you go knocking.

Obviously you could be onto a winner. There are some writers production companies like straight away.

You can try BBC Writers Room or one of the production companies that take unsolicited stuff. I'm sure there are lists or other threads on here. Do a search.

When do you know something is ready?

Stick a couple of scenes up in the Critique forum
You will receive several (different) answers to that question.
