It wasn't dead stupid. But God, it was dreary. On the basis of not being stupid it becomes the second best Christmas episode by default. But the best one was only mediocre Who so it's not saying much.
Doctor Who... Page 608
Quote: chipolata @ December 26 2010, 2:50 PM GMTOr maybe they'll just have, I don't know, a decent script?
They did. Obviously wasn't for you though, better luck next year??
It was mental but did make sense. I really enjoyed it but wished that Rory and Amy weren't sidelined so much. Number two for the day as well in the ratings.
I was probably not concentrating and missed something, but why did the Doctor need to mess around changing "Scrooge"'s past when he could have simply gone back to stop the spaceship getting into trouble in the first place?
This episode rocked.
1 Matt Smith
2 Clever use of time travel. The guy getting to watch his memories change and realising that he was his own ghost.
3 Just enough Amy and Rory being lovable.
4 A genuinely alien planet.
5 Flying fishthat's kinda cool and funky and simple.
Downers
1 Way too much Christmas and the carole singing was just bloody stupid.
2 Bit slow getting started.
But overall top stuff showing New Who really flexing it's muscles. And for the first time Dr Who not panicking about time travel and going with it. Not to mention Matt SMith being one of the few actors to really feel "right" as the Dr, far more so than Tennant.

Best not to pick at that thread, otherwise you could ask something similar about almost every Who story!

That did improve the episode I think.

Except if a couple is going to roleplay, one doesn't dress as a policewoman and the other as a Roman centurion. That makes a mockery of the whole roleplaying thing.
Mummy, why are they dressed up?
From the (very) little I watched of this episode, I gather they dragged in and re-heated elements from A Christmas Carol. What a fresh, unexpected and original thing to do in a Christmas special. Can't think why no-one's ever thought of doing this before. No wonder this is the greatest show on British television, one that shows that we Brits haven't run out of ideas in TV (etc, etc, you get the gist...)

Becuase Amy pond is fit, and deserves to get her legs out

You've never played D&D with dungeon master Sootyj

"Making a mockery of the supposed protocols of sexual roleplay was the event that finally caused Chip to completely turn against 'Doctor Who'. This time, they had gone too far. When they finally found Moffatt's body, which was clothed in a saucy French maid's outfit..."

Oh come on! By using such a well known structure they saved them selves buckets of exposition time.
Christmas Carole Bosh
Magic opera and caroles Bosh
Flying fish Bosh
Space sex party ship crashing Bosh
Now on with an actually interesting story, with an actual genuine scifi concept.
Or would you prefer tedious episodes of
"What's a Slitheen Dr?"

Yes. Yes I would. When I was a kid we watched Doctor Who out of a sense of duty, not to be entertained.
