I'm very sad to hear that Blake Edwards has died. Loved his work. The Pink Panther, The Party and 10 being particular favourites of mine. 88 though so he had a good innings.
Blake Edwards 1922-2010
He was a genius. Really admired him. Sad news.
RIP. Love The Pink Panther films.
Liked Pink Panther Strikes Again but thimk my favourite of his is Blind Date,a v underrated film IMO
The early Pink Panther were brilliant. I also remember enjoying Skin Deep, another of his. R.I.P.
First Leslie Nielsen, now another comedy great gone... I think everybody needs to stick on their Pink Panther anthologies in remembrance!
That, or raise a glass..

Think I'll do both.

Have you ever been on a blind date, Peter?
Chatting to my Dad earlier when we saw the news.
Was he married to Julie Andrews? I didn't know that.

directed her in The Tamarind Seed, SOB and Victor/Victoria, think she was in 10 as well not sure. Just remembered think Micki and Maude was him as wellthat's quite good
Sad to hear that...I loved the Pink Panther films he made, and they remind me of the Naked Gun films with Leslie Neilson... the same hilarous silly buffoon detective character...end of an era with both now gone.
RIP Mr Edwards.
Though of course he is known mainly for the comedies - some great, some good, some bloody awful - he did a couple of fine directing jobs on Breakfast At Tiffany's and Days Of Wine and Roses.
Made some good Pink Panthers but Sellers and Mancini were possibly the main reasons for their success, not Edwards. imo. The first two were great, almost subtle, then the slapstick cliches started pouring in on the rest of them.
Sellers didn't rate him much, if you believe the stories and the Sellers biopic, but then Sellers was a massive ego who dreamed about being a great director himself, so I think there was some jealousy there. I think BE's visual mastery speaks for itself in his best films, and Sellers carried it off beautifully - a great team whose professional rivalry meant they just didn't get on off screen. Not uncommon at all.

I'm also a fan of Blind Date. And The Great Race, Days of Wine and Roses and the Panthers. I thought City Heat - a (mismatched) buddy movie set in the 1930s and starring Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds was dreadful. Easily Clint's worst film.
Days and Wine Roses is one of the best portraits of alcoholism I've seen and it's a great tribute to Edwards that he could move from comedy to very strong material for its day.
