People who try to joke with you are annoying

Sometimes, when I go for a pint or when I'm shopping, I find that the workers try to joke around and make comments at me/other customers.

I always sneer whenever they try to do their 'banter'.

In my view, you should simply pay for your product and leave. The only interaction should be this:

Worker: Thank you sir, that'll be (enter amount here) please.
Customer: Certainly (customer pays for product). Bye.
Worker: Bye.

Any deviation from this is cringeworthy, particularly when they try to engage you in their humourless 'banter', which normally involves them saying, 'cheer up/why the long face/you could smile you know/some other stupid comment etc'.

Yes that is annoying.

Still it's not difficult to grin & bear it.
You never quite know how annoying you might be yourself when you are trying to be funny.

I can be very annoying when I'm trying to be funny.

I have several links to prove it.

Laughing out loud

I don't try to be funny at all. And as for 'grinning and bearing it'?

Nope. I either sneer and/or tut whenever they attempt their 'banter' (often accampanied by me folding my arms and shaking my head disapprovingly). That usually has the effect of them not talking to me from then on. Just the way I like it :)

Limited/zero talking > banter.

I always look on the bright side of life.

Not the light side? Or the right one even?

I don't mind if the people are actually funny. If they're not, then yes, it's...not funny.

I like it when people have a joke with me. It takes all sorts to make a world.

I usually fake a snigger and say "Yeah!" before walking off and cursing their families.

I might have guessed.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. When you sneer at the general public's pathetic attempts at being friendly towards you, they walk away from the situation thinking "What a miserable sad c**t he is". Meanwhile, you retain your obvious superiority to all of mankind. And thus the balance of the cosmos is maintained.
