It's definitely the show. I find it increasingly hard to follow.

definitely going to give some of the suggestions a try, I'm reading the autobiography of Desmond Morris at the moment, does anyone know if he's planning to do any new stuff on radio? Wasn't too impressed by four lions but his new spoofs were great.
Quote: Ian Wolf @ November 24 2010, 6:59 PM GMTJust heard Lucy Montgomery's Variety Pack - many LOL moments. I especially liked the tourist information woman and the business plan.
Tried to listen to this in the car last night and had to switch over about half way through when she did the sketch about the Spanish waitress (?) with the whistling teeth as it was so annoying.
She seems to be quite good at vaguely amusing voices but I have to confess that in the 15 minutes I listened to I didn't laugh at a single bit, it all seemed very lame with sketches going nowhere and just petering out, a few half decent ideas but very poor executed in my humble opinion.
Yes, I find it a bit hit and miss, with a few more misses than hits. And although I only listened to it last night I can't remember any of the sketches, other than the old music hall woman that ends the show. Not very funnily.
I have never head Bleak Expectations but due to this II shall purchase the series forthwith.

You'll love it, although it does break a paradigm or two so please God I hope JPM1 doesn't listen too!
Yeah, Bleak Expectations is ace.
I doubted JPM1 would dare move to a second thread as he seems to have such a strong opinion about The Trip. It's almost as though he's Coogan himself plagued with self-doubt.
Dan
It's true this series hasn't been as good though.

Maybe they need to take a break for a few years and come back refreshed. We seem to have had one series a year for about four years (?). That must take quite a toll on the creators.
Really not impressed with Lucy Montogomery's Variety Pack, despite having a lot of a lot of talented people involved in it. More hit than miss, with some incredibly creaky jokes crammed into the half hour. And the old singer who ends every show is cringeworthy.
I would say that Lucy Montogomery's Variety Pack is somewhat average.
Listened to iGod last night. Certainly an interesting idea (each episode features a different end to the world caused by a bloke called Ian), but not really LOL as far as I can remember. Will listen to the next episode.

I agree, they had that Polish woman with bad false-teeth again, whistling and loud, had to turn off, some amusing bits though!.
Les Kelly's Heroes passed the time but it seemed like a derivative mash-up between Alan Partridge and Down The Line. Except it wasn't as good as either.
For those interested, you can now subscribe to the new Radio 4 "Comedy of the Week" podcast. If I remember rightly, Chortle reported that the first show to be on the podcast will by Mark Thomas: The Manifesto, which will actually have the episode before it is broadcast.
This years Christmas radio offerings have been fairly uninspired. Cabin Pressure was okay, but nothing we haven't heard dozens of time before. And I'm getting a bit sick of the 15 Minute Musicals. They're like Newsjack but with songs.
Not sure if there hav been any other specials. If there have, they haven't made much of an impression.
