As much as I disliked Tony Blair, I think that Gordon Brown behaved atrociously as chancellor. He was constantly undermining Blair and having his aides feed stories to his friend, Paul Dacre, the editor of The Daily Mail. As a result Blair took all the flak, and Brown luxuriated in this image of a mighty Prime Minister in waiting...
Now Brown's in power, there's nobody above him to take the flak, and he's getting it in the neck. Vince Cable's put down in the House of Commons, saying he'd gone from Stalin to Mr Bean, was spot on and quite funny for a politician. And now, with everything turning to shit for Brown, everybody is turning against him. I can't help but feeling there's an element of poetic justice in that.
