Maturity Page 3

Have a think of making it more specific perhaps than just mature students DrVole. I did one about student nurses/doctors once. Admittedly it was more comedy drama. But maybe it is time for a new Doctor in the House or somesuch. Where's Tim Walker when we need him?

It's great that your daughter likes the above sitcoms but is she similarly smitten by 'Last of the Summer Wine' and 'Waiting for God'? I doubt it.

I loved Waiting For God when I was a teenager.

By the way, for those that may think (from some of the comments) that 'mature student' means OAPs, I think you're officially a mature student from around 23 (or is it 26).

I think it's anybody who has taken more than a gap year.

A mature student, also known as an adult student, adult learner, Returning Adults or Adult Returners, and non-traditional students in North America, in tertiary education (at a university or a college) is normally classified as an (undergraduate) student who is at least 25 years old (23 years old in Ireland, 21 in the UK) at the start of their course, or in the Irish case on the first of January of the year of entry, and usually having been away from school for at least two years. Mature students can also include students away from school for decades or students with no secondary education as situations allow. Mature students also make up graduate and post graduate populations merely by demographic of age.

zooo, zooo, zooo! Have you not realised yet that arguining with Veronica Vestibule is like King Cnut trying to turn back the tide. You're not going to get anywhere. She obstinately sticks to her point and refuses to let anything as mundane as facts derail her.

I'm still waiting for the list of female comedians who just talk about sex while men pleasure themselves in the audience.

For 'research' purposes?

How very dare you!

Mind you I have heard female comics complain about having a hard crowd in sometimes.

Yes, I'd imagine it's quite a stiff test at times.

If the mature students in the proposed sitcom are going to be representative of the nation's mature students, I doubt they'll have much appeal for teenagers or younger people in general.

Well they wouldn't be, would they.
No more than Basil Fawlty is representative of Hoteliers.
That's not the job of comedy.
One would hope they would be a collection of interesting characters finding themselves in a series of interesting/potentially comic situation.
It'll be as funny as it is.
And that'll be up to the OP.
It's setting and character line-up are just a means to an end.

BTW, is it me or is there more silly talk than usual on the board?
There's some right old trousers occurring on the 'The Trip' thread.

Yeah, some might say you could nail it down to one or two particular posters. I wouldn't say that, of course. But some might.

The guy who plays all the troll characters is particularly busy right now. I guess as things get lonelier on the way to xmas it's a comfort to him to be surrounded by so many new people.

Come on now, Aaron is entitled to his opinion of the show just like everyone else! :)

Troll guy now has an automatic bad press (caused by his own doing I hasten to add). A good percentage of his posts are funny/relevant. I think he is actually good to have around (a bit like Father Jack).
