Boiler was condemed last week. We are all lucky to be alive so British Gas say. Which was comforting.

This year's Christmas present is a new boiler.

I hope my daughter will like it.

:D

Modern Boilers don't have pilot lights, they have a computer controlled hotplug to ignite the gas; it looks like a car sparkplug.

As you may have seen I had a new pump fitted in mine last Thursday.

Today I dismantled the failed pump and verified that water had indeed got into the coils of its motor and it had burned out. Cannot for the life of me see how the water got past the ingenious water seals. The rotor which drives the pump wheel is inside a sealed stainless can, the coils surround it and the magnetic force to spin the rotor works THROUGH the metal of the stainless can.

Maybe the water was already in there?

Er, no. The design is such that there is water inside the stainless can (where it probably helps keep it cool), but the electrics including the coils are outside the flooded portion.

Ellie has had a terrible hangover all but a nice roast (with veggie sausages) and some carrot cake has helped!
