Well, strictly speaking, FWIW, BRB, LOL and such aren't 'txt spk'. They've been around longer than mobiles, going right back to the early days of newsgroups and other pre-web Internet-based mediums.
What we (myself and Mark mainly) object to is the pathetic contractions like 'gr8' and 'l8r', not acronyms such as above. 
All this Tomfoolery doesn't alter the fact that those Pesky Yanks are gonna brutalise one of our most treasured sitcoms and we are unable to do Jack Shite about it.
