Anyway the parts have now arrived, but my plumber's mobile phone is out of action. So I may have to call Patrick (the builder who organised the heating/bathroom rebuild, this time last year) to go fetch...
And if I can't get Patrick, I'll probably fit the new pump into the boiler myself. It ain't rocket science, even if the insides of a modern boiler do look rather like rocketry. I'd never do any of the GAS stuff myself, but I'm happy doing the watery bits and the electricery bits.

While the idea appeals, for the last category, at least, it would be impossible with no cartridges, trigger covers, caps on the barrells, the whole lot. Fully disabled.
