It can occur wherever one is in a position of care and power over another's life. Mother and child is just by far the commonest situation where this occurs.

There's a difference between inflicting harm on someone simply in order to bring attention to oneself and Münchhausen's by proxy, which can often be a far more subconscious cry for help and may involve genuine delusional thoughts and behaviour.

You have to judge each case on its individual circumstances really...

Thanks Tim. :)

In the one case (which sadly was a family member) the child had cancer (leukemia specifically) and went into remission. About 15 months later, he suddenly started losing weight. What everyone thought was a return of the cancer was actually his mother starving him and giving him diuretics. She then shaved his head and began pulling him out of school for "doctor's appointments." All of this was going on right under our entire family's watch. Luckily all is okay now, but she did cause the end of her marriage and is now in a mental health facility.

Neil, in the court proceedings, it was defined as being that.

Wow. How would you know? Terriable. At least all is well now.

Was that in the papers? Seems to ring a bell.

It was kept pretty quiet around here. The mother is a relative of mine and the wife of a prominent minister. But from what all the experts in the courts said it was a standard case of it.

From what we all gathered after the dust settled, she was despondent that he didn't need her any more and after a while she began to truly believe that he was ill again. :(

Best Captcha ever.

Absolutely disgusted with the X Factor 'rigged' vote.

First, Javine doesn't get picked for Girls Aloud - now this.

Ha ha. It's all a load of bollocks so who really cares. No-one really makes any real money from it except Cowell.

And it just shows what Tweedy is made of.

Not much of a gesture, but I'm watching Private Benjamin - my way of marking Remembrance Day.

How so?

How so?

I hunted through my DVD collection, looking for a WW1 film to watch. The closest thing I could find was Private Benjamin. A movie about army life.

It's a tenuous link, admittedly - but it's the thought that counts.

Don't you even have Platoon?

Seen Platoon, but don't own it. War films not really my thing.
