Writer with delusions of grandure seeks cuddles

Hi all

First post so go easy on me!

So, I finally got off my arse and wrote a "hilarious" sitcom script (yes, I know, you've heard it all before). I've always wanted to write something but never got round to it. My idea is fairly simple, but has a unique backdrop which I hope could get it noticed. I'm a complete novice when it comes to writing, but I've always (probably incorrectly) thought I could write something that could appeal to the masses.......

My wife is the only person so far to have read the script and she actually cried with laughter (for the good I believe). I understand she may hold some bias to my work so I am looking for someone else to give it the once over who isn't financially dependant on me.

I was originally intending on submitting the script to the BBC Writers Room, but on reading many posts on this very forum I realise this may not be the correct route for my work for two reasons. Firstly they are mainly looking for writers not projects, and secondly my work would possibly suit Channel 4/E4 over
the BEEB.

So I have a few questions that I would be grateful if someone could answer honestly?!

1) If I send my script to the BBC (and they hate it), am I still free to send it elsewhere? Or is it "marked" dead and no other bugger will touch it?

2) What other options are open to me? Are there any other avenues I can explore/avoid?

3) Does anyone have Ricky Gervais's mobile number?

Thanks for any input, and please don't burst my bubble - it's nearly Xmas.

1) Yes.
2) Search for production companies that accept scripts on the search option here.
3) Why?

I think "delusions of grandure" is very funny. Well done.

Thanks for the reply Mark.

My error for putting a question within a question - but do you mean "Yes" if the BBC reject the script I am still free to send it elsewhere? Or I should prepare the gallows? (damn I've done it again!)

Errr

The BBC are just the BBC - they have no control over their own programming anymore let alone other production companies.

Not known for being a bubble burster - I would on this occaission urge you to get more than one opinion on your work.
Whilst sending something less than brilliant off to the Writers Room won't be held against you (they get a lot of that sort of thing) - jumping through all the hurdles it takes to get through to someone that matters at a ProdCo, and then delivering something sub par will hurt your nascent career.
People have long memories.
There's plenty of people here who'll give you an opinion - and there's other places too.
But don't press the button until you get a second opinion.
In my opinion..

Thanks Lazzard

We actually have one of my wife's friends staying round tomorrow night who works for the BBC. She is some sort of PR person but she does know a lot of people (inc famous ones) and I'm hoping she may be able to suggest something/someone.

She's pretty honest as well, so I'll get her drunk and then ask her to read my script with a gun to her head.

Thanks for advice - I'll take heed.

Cherish that contact - you're already well ahead of the pack with that up your sleeve.
Hope she likes it.
If you want more opinions (and believe me these will be honest!), just stick a couple of scenes up in Critique.
I for one would take a look.
