The question though is what's the better system?

There's only one way to find out..............

Better than I haven't read a book but I have a bunch of assumptions.

I agree. Are you implying something?

If you think I've said anything in favour of socialist societies per se in this thread I'd like to invite you to quote it.

It's the implied alternate to capitalism

I'm assuming you're not referring to theocracy.
You're not are you?

I can't see any reason now to go to university unles you have a specific career in mind (doctor, lawyer etc.)

Or unless you enjoy learning, obviously.

No, if you analyse it money is just an exchange mechanism designed to reward people based on the amount they work. The only reason it appears differently is because what began as a simple exchange has spiralled into a confusing (to the layman) clusterf**k of economic games. What people need is food, water, shelter, entertainment and other necessities. No one needs money, they need sustenance.

This is possibly the most ridiculous thing anyone in this thread has put forward. Everyone should be an entrepreneur? What kind of outrageous hyper-capitalist society would that be? Where are your nurses and your bus drivers in that society? I just can't begin to get my head round how ridiculous it would be to take teaching away from teachers and give it over to business men.

I can only conclude you live in a bubble and you don't understand how society works. I was actually agreeing with a lot of your points about uni before, but then you just deviated into this weird atomistic view of the world and it just sounds jaded and sad.

ok..they need sustenance/food/water/shelter etc....err...what do they buy it with? Your simplistic view of 'economic games' has been happening for centuries - handle it. Money makes the world go round - not jobs!

You fall into the trap of one-dimensional thinking. 'Entrepreneur' need not mean someone who makes a shed load of cash. I mean it in the broader sense of being an entrepreneur of your own mind - taking control of your powers and optimising them - not being limited by the conventions of others and systems (i.e. to keep it simple for you - becoming a manual worker because your teacher/parent told youthat's your limit. Taking some of the teaching away from 'teachers' is not a bad idea. All teachers do is help to perpetuate the stupid system that we have now.

Clearer now?

Let me guess... You bought into the study/study/study/work work work/ bit - and it's all looking like its not what it said on the tin now?

If you now apply my thoughts with my, hopefully, clarified explanation you may understand my thinking better. I Don't know how society works? Dont make me laugh - I've spent a lifetime observing and overcoming, succesfully, the s**t it throws up - thanks for the pontification anyway.

And are very rich!

Or are willing to do what you currently need to.

But yes, ideally rich!

No, I was actually referring to demarchy. :P

At no stage have I advocated the end of capitalism. To suggest that the current economic situation is not a good thing, and has in part been caused by chasing capitalist ideals is not to suggest that I'm advocating the adoption of a different - and historically bankrupt - system.

Just cos I'm arguing against blue being the best colour, doesn't automatically mean I think pink is the best.

:O How exactly are you paying for your course, zooo?

Agree totally. (But may I add you will probably need generous parents or a hankering for a decade or so of debt).

Well if it's just to 'enjoy learning' - then don't do it at the taxpayers' expense. If you pay for your enjoyment experience yourself in total - fine - otherwise cough up.

What are you learning Zooo?

Nothing at the moment.

Apart from how opinionated and arsey the lot of us can be. ;)

Not really.
