Repeat The Goodies for the 40th Anniversary!

On the 10/10/2010 a fan appeared on BBC's points of View to ask If the BBC were doing anything special for The Goodies 40th Anniversary. This is what was said

From Point's of View, Quoted from the thread on http://z6.invisionfree.com/UK_Goodies/index.php?showtopic=1370&st=0 (The Saucy Gibbon Forum)

Viewer comment (Richard Sleeman)
I want to ask the BBC if they have any plans of marking the 40th anniversary of The Goodies in November. They haven't been seen on the BBC for nearly 30 years and I'm sure the millions of people in the UK want to watch them again and would certainly tune in. They did various other theme nights on BBC2 marking the anniversaries of Monty Python and Dad's Army etc., but they did a short hour and a half documentary of The Return of the Goodies in 2005, but they've not yet broadcast anymore episodes. I'd like that to change!

And here was the response from the Controller of Entertainment (Mark Linsey)
We have a couple of specials coming out to celebrate a wonderfully gifted personality who has been much loved by BBC audiences; we are also celebrating a BBC sit-com that is still a favourite with viewers. We try to offer a wide range of entertainment programmes, and believe the majority should be current rather than reflective or nostalgic. It is also worth pointing out that the last series of the Goodies was actually made for LWT in 1982.

POV Presenter (Jeremy Vine)
That'll be a 'No' then...

Thanks! :)

You ought to write a letter to the BBC informing them that viewers' questions should not be answered with irrelevant waffle, but should instead be answered succinctly. Such as:
Question: Is the BBC planning to repeat any episodes of The Goodies on the occasion of their 40th anniversary?
BBC Response: No; because after nine years of loyalty from them, we decided not to renew their contract, so the ungrateful sods made their final series for LWT and we are so petty that we have never got over it.

If you're desperate, you could consider emigrating to Australia, where The Goodies is still being repeated (on a free-to-air terrestrial channel to boot). 'Goodies in the Nick' was on last night.

Quite.

Why can't they let Gold or Dave show them? I don't exactly know how those channels work or are funded but they seem to be largely unbranded commercial Beeb channels.

There is market for it so I don't understand why they are against filling their pockets.

The BBC just aren't keen on allowing them to be seen. Network's DVD releases have been a step in the right direction, but that's as flexible as they've been in the UK.

I just can't love The Goodies for no other reason than I can't stand Bill Oddie. Never have. Anything that Bill Oddie's in I take an instant dislike to. I have an irrational loathing of Bill Oddie's wife, just because I know Bill Oddie's been in her.

The only possible way that Bill Oddie has ever been funny is when he was referenced as one of Alan Partridge's friends.

Couldn't they do some kind of CGI edit where Bill Oddie was removed? (Oh, and whilst they're at it, excise the f**king 'Funky Gibbon' - which has been scientifically proven to be only truly funny to male biology teachers with beards and a wife suffering from "glandular" problems...)

EDIT: Actually, could they edit out Tim Brooke-Taylor as well...?

I reckon the could just about remake The Goodies. They could do a Goodies movie.

That's not very nice. He's adored in Australia. His music and songs greatly enhanced the fun of The Goodies.

And from Facebook: A reminder that "Return of The Goodies" is being repeated on BBC Two tomorrow (Sat, 13 Nov) at 8:00pm.

It is important that the BBC get feedback about the repeat. BBC license payers, PLEASE CALL OR WRITE to say you enjoyed the show and want to see more of "The Goodies". The BBC can be contacted by phone at 0370 010 0123, by mail at P...O Box 1922, Darlington, DL3 0UR, and online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/feedback/.

Do you mean a remake with younger actors? Horrible thought. Bill Oddie has said it couldn't be remade now because they are too old. The other two (especially TBT) might be more keen, but apparently Bill has become a bit difficult to work with.

Well, I think I'm right in saying that he suffers badly from depression. He had to quit his job presenting a wildlife show a year or two ago because of it.

Which he goes on about at length in his autobiography, which was not the treasury of behind-the-scenes Goodies anecdotes that I'd been hoping for.

There's clinical depression, and then there's being a grumpy, irascible git who seems to have little concern for anyone other than himself.

Anyway, back to Bill Oddie...

Are you suggesting Bill Oddie does not suffer from depression?

I'm not his doctor, so I couldn't/wouldn't comment.
