Iman and Aisha #2

Probably best read this one first: https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/19137/

---

EXT. EAST-END STREET

IMAN, DRESSED IN A BURQA, CARRYING SHOPPING, MINDING HER OWN BUSINESS.

SHE TURNS A CORNER.

SPOTS A GROUP OF ABOUT A DOZEN WOMEN, ALL DRESSED IN IDENTICAL BURQAS, HANGING OUT ON THE STREET CORNER.

AISHA IS AMONG THEM.

TIGHT ON IMAN'S EYES. FEAR.

TIGHT ON AISHA'S EYES. ANGER.

CUT TO:

EXT. EAST-END STREET

IMAN, SPRINTING, CHASED BY A DOZEN SCREAMING WOMEN IN BURQAS.

YWB

Are these intended as very throwaway & light hearted, mostly-visual gags? A descendant to Monty Python's gangs of little old ladies roaming the streets & causing trouble?

I'm not understanding these Kev to be fair.

YWB

?

I really liked the first one (didn't comment on it because this is the thread that everyone else is posting on). The first one works, for me, because how could either person know who the other one is? Transposing one culture onto another really appeals to my sense of humour.

I think this one doesn't work as well because you need to read who they are to understand the story (we wouldn't be able to spot Aisha or Iman by just seeing them on screen unless there were some distinguishable feature - and then the joke doesn't work).

Hope that makes sense.

Pretty much. Observant Muslim women behaving like teenage boys.

When I caught the live version of the the first sketch on the street the other day, I pissed myself. Maybe I've just not been living in London long enough, but it struck me as odd.

You've written better

I am kind of liking these, but I am not altogether certain why.

Sorry Kev, but despite being warned by my mother, I'm in bed with Sootyj on this one.

Eek a man!

Fair enough everyone. Perhaps these two poorly written.

But trust me, two women in burkas calling each other c**ts is one of the funniest things you're ever likely to see.

Kev you're a great writer but c'mon experience isn;t comedy.

Probably not. Fair point.

But I refer you to Harry & Paul and "isn't she probably pretty" for a great example of burqa-based comedy.
