Strikes

So what do people think? Fair and reasonable protest or destructive quibling?

Was given a leaflet on Tube strikes today and well I don't back them. London Transport desperately needs to raise funds for maintenance/redevelopment. Fairs can't go much higher nor can government subsidy.
Especially when they're funding Tubes with 2 drivers where none is needed and ticket offices that aren't used (that was the whole point of Oyster which cost a billion quid).

All companies need to restructure and sometimes that means job losses.

Fire service not so sure. Shift patterns have made it a quite cushy and lucrative profession. Plus the unions have done stupid things like refuse to take on any paramedic training meaning dual call outs for most emergencies. But threatening to sack people if they don't sign contracts is just mean and stupid on behalf of management.

Any other opinions? Personally I'd like to see the army go on strike (not front line but the ones who entertain tourists) and an MP strike would be ace.

But specifically don't like firemen striking on Bonfire Night. Just massive selfishness. Do they really not see how terrible this makes them look to the public? Idiotic.

I think most strikes are timed to draw attention so it makes sense.

I wish teachers had gone on strike on some of the idiot descions forced on them by the last government.

No, I know that's why they did it.
But I think it's counter productive. Makes us all hate them.

True and the government sold all the army Green Godess fire engines. So they'll be 12 engines for the whole of London.

And I bet if a bunch of people die, the firemen won't think it's their fault. Bunch of useless thugs.

It's a difficult dangerous job and they are being treated unfairly.

If managment would take back the sign or sack threat they wouldn't strike.

So firemen get my vote.

I am all in favour of workers protecting their jobs and working conditions. If striking is the way to do that, then I am fully supportive of it.

Most companies and governments talk bollocks about deficits, and need to restructure ..blah blah blah. the ones who always get hit by this are the people at the bottom, while the profits, wages and lifestyles of those in positions of power remain untouched.

If the country is really in such a shit state, surely properly dealing with situations like this:

We had an applesauce factory near my home go on strike. Nobody cared.
