Or overrated

It seems that if someone is simple 'very good indeed', like him, the public want to elevate him to god-like status, and so yes, he's overrated, but he's still 'very good indeed'.

The "public" elevate anyone to god-like status. Simon Cowell. Jade Goody. Jedward.

By those standards, Rowan Atkinson is a god. Although to be fair, he's coasted since his heyday in the eighties. I think Backadder Goes Forth was the last thing of note I saw him in.

I enjoyed a performance he did many years ago in a Mel Smith film (the Tall Guy?) playing a vile comedian pushing around Jeff Goldblum as his assistant.

Gurning his way through the insufferable Mr Bean however is utterly unforgivable, although it's universally well-liked for some inexplicable reason.

He's making Johnny English 2 at the moment...

Can't wait.

For being very funny!

I wonder if Rowan's seen the Harry & Paul Bean sketch.
Does he even live in England? Or has he gone to LA, Cleese-style.

No, he lives here. He recently got planning permission for a big modern house in the Cotswolds, I think it was.

And I believe Cleese only lives in LA for half of the year as he suffers from rheumatism that is exaccerbated terribly by our Autumn and Winter weather.

Oh good! You never see him anywhere in the press, so it seems like he's not here.

Ah, now I feel guilty.

Atkinson's just private and reclusive, I believe.

Makes a refreshing change!

Utter legend!!!

And like Rowan Atkinson they used to be funny many years ago.

While this series is hit-and-miss, I think they're producing some of their best ever work right now.

I wonder if this is true: http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/lifeandtimes/mr-bean-confirmed-to-play-ghost-role-in-indonesian-movie/506666

I'm not sure quite how to respond to that, but it did make me laugh out loud.

Reports from Indonesia that Rowan Atkinson was starring in a crappy horror-comedy movie with a local starlet (best known for displaying her breasts) have been cleared up. It turns out that a Mr Bean impersonator (one William Ferguson from Scotland) was hired to star in the film. The film's producer and the starlet had sought to attract viewers by insinuating the real Mr Bean was the star. Ferguson claims he was duped by the producer and never meant to deceive anyone. More details in this atrocious example of Indonesian journalism:
