How do you promote your internet comedy show? Page 2

Honestly, the only way to get big on the internet is to make a good video and hope people spread it.

This is basically it. I'd also add you probably need to be churning out one a week and networking with other YouTubers, organising collaborations etc. to put your face infront of as many people as possible (although not infront of David as he'll punch it).

That sounds like a decent teaser, but it wouldn't likely go viral.

I need to come up with something that is gonna get peoples attention, controversial basically. That idea would be okay as a little ad, but like you say, its not going to get passed around.

Just watched your Project Managers cartoon Shoepie, I thought it was really good, made me laugh.

I've got an idea for a viral but I dunno if A)its a shit idea or B)it's a bad idea

Here's the idea

I'll have a cartoon verison of my main character, based on the book cover design http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4080/4869014615_28393b334b.jpg

It'll be a head and shoulders shot to start with, with him holding up his book, prompting it, along the lines of

"Read all about me, Jacob Cox and my biggest mission yet, to get inside the Queens legs and sort out all the shit! It's gonna get nasty but if I'm going to raise to the occasions this needs doing, and fast!"

He then puts on a Rambo type bandanna turns around and walks off, revealing the Queens Legs is a pub.

The rivalry between the main characters bar and the pub down the road is one of the main aspects of the story, though not the only, so I could do more virals that are different

Agree with Nat; that's not a viral. Take a look at famous viral videos and note commonalities. Cute kids, cute animals, cute teenagers, people getting hurt and complex displays of invention (clever animation/big dance numbers etc) - those are the vids that go global. Sorry, but a cartoon designed to sell a book is not going to be an internet sensation.

I get that, the animation would just be an additional advertising tool for prompting the book, that's if I ever get the chance to get round to it.

What do you do for a living Shoepie?

Is there a very short scene in the book where one of the characters does something stupid/embarassing/painful? Script it as a sketch, film it 'found footage' style and put it on YouTube as EPIC FAIL OMG etc etc etc. Maybe not that, but you will need to name it to include one of the BIG YouTube searches (you can find a list online). At the end, put up the link to your website, and people will follow.

If you film it, they will come.

Yeah there's a lot, I'll have to have a read over it and pick a scene, plenty of fights and cringe moments to pick from

Sounds like viral potential to me. You know- if you do it well. You could even cast 'up and coming' actors to do it for free and they can use it as part of their showreel. If you're doing it 'found footage' style, you don't need a fancy camera- it will look more real if filmed on a decentish phone camera. The more real and less slick it looks, the more impact it will have. The acting will have to be good though, otherwise it will fail if it's obviously staged.

I was gonna do it as a cartoon or 3D animation

Animations very very rarely go viral. You're putting yourself at a disadvantage in the YouTube market.

I suppose I could do something like a fake YOU BEEN FRAMED moment, like you said, it could be filmed as if its a moment captured on a home camera

Dooooo ittttt. Y'kno- If you wanna go viral and not just make an advert that is :D

Though I'm not sure how I'd go about filming a scene where two midget prositutes drug the pub rival landlord and set him up driving his car through the front of a police station

Or maybe I could with the use of 3D and blue screen??????

Pick a more believable one! SHEEEEEESSSHHHH. Do you want me to make it for you? :P

LOL,that's my favourite scene and it wouldnt be impossible to film! Do it like a CCTV camera, which would help disguise the sfx's

Actually the more I think about it, it wouldnt be hard to do

make it look real, so people think its a real cctv

all I'd need is a police station front, then a car bursts through and two midgets prostitutes jump out and run away, then a big bloke gets out staggering around with bottles in his hand
