I personally think the Carli conclusion was a nice touch. And I've a feeling it might be finally answered in the movie what happens between them
The Inbetweeners - Series 3 Page 28
That's what I was thinking too...
Quote: Shepka @ October 19 2010, 5:17 PM BSTWhat did others think about the Carli plot's "conclusion"?
It was an easy way to deal with, a sort of make your own mind up what happened way of ending. Which was quite nice. My theory was that Carli reacted badly to the text, so Simon knew nothing was going to happen, which made going down to Swansea easier.
To be honest, I loved this series. I thoroughly enjoyed Series 1 and 2, although I thought in places it looked for an easy joke and was a bit contrived. I was worried that this season would become even more easy and self-aware. I think I was wrong, if anything this has been the best series for me. The characters have got stronger and the chemistry between the lads gets better and better.
One thing I did find weird about it, though, was the reluctance to say where abouts the lads were in their sixth form life. The first series ends at Christmas in their first year, the second after sitting their ASs so at the end of the 1st year. In this series they barely mention school, they make reference to one of Neils fart's smelling like the left overs of Christmas dinner in his stomach, so I imagine they was half way through the second year. I think there's a few missed opportunities because the second year of college, that period of your life the 17 to 18 cross over year, can be a time where a good deal of humour could be taken. My 2nd year of college was probably the best time of my life with a lot going on. Going out more often, meeting more people, going to rubbish 18th parties, good to good 18th parties, appling for unis, going to open days, that weird time when some of your friends can get in clubs and the others can't, lining up in the queue with oldest at the front so they'll hopefully just say to all of you 'in you go' but then you ineveitably end up going to a rubbish club that just lets anyone in. People thinking they're hardcore and veteran drinkers because they've been out a few weekends. Looking back on my 2nd year of college it was quite a funny time. I think The Inbetweeners could have done a lot with those sort of situations.
It seems to me as if the almost 18 time and the things that come with that worked well for The Inbetweeners and they was reluctant to change that. What I would have thought would have been a more natural thing to do though, espcially considering the popularity of the show, is have 4 series, 2 series for each year of sixth form, with the show coming to a natural end when the lads' sixth form career comes to end - with the lads going on different paths. Presumably Simon and Will going to decent unis, Jay staying at home and getting a job with his Dad and Neil going to a Polytechnic and doing a foundation Sports & Tourism course.
I have to take this opportunity to really praise writers Damon Beesley and Iain Morris for what was an absolutely fantastic series, probably the best so far. You can tell the actors have really grown into their characters, and know exactly how to get the best out of each other. I simply cannot wait for the movie...I'm sure it will be 90 minutes of complete and utter genius. I heard America are going to pilot the show over there with an all-American cast...not sure I can imagine it having the same success without that incredible British sarcasm that Will in particular pulls off so well. But hey I guess we should be good sports and support the good old US anyway
Had some good laughs last night and throughout the series but I have to admit it's not been the best run. It's kind of frustrating because I want it to be excellent, as these characters and setup are. But there seems to be a lot of cheap gags and reliance on repeated ones too. Which isn't a bad reflection on the reality of school-kid humour, but for a show which can produce the unexpected and make us laugh, it sorta hightlights the weaker gags.
Great final series. Probably the right time to put it to bed as the odd flaw was coming from time to time, such as an uneeded increase in bodily function jokes in the final episodes. Another minor problem was Jay's casual manner. Are we really expected to believe for example that Neil would stand by and let him ruin his motorbike or likewise letting Simon's car go in the river. Plus his lies were getting more and more bizarre. Such as for example in the first series or so, his lies that weren't sexual were still lies that were slightly plausable, such as him knowing bouncers who'd let them in clubs etc. Yet there was a lie about his Dad robbing cars for the Russian Mafia the other night. I think towards the end he was turning into a modern day Frankie Abbot.
But still a hilarious series with every episode in it guaranteed to make you laugh out loud.
Yeah my main reason for not liking this third series as much is that it seemed to have lost its sense of realism that made the first two great.
Finally saw the last episode. Glad it didn't have that "final" feeling or tried to tie it all up. Agreed it had lost its "realism" but still hilarious and I actually laughed out loud for most of the episode. Very well done and will be missed.
I can't contain my grief.

Same here, I was kinda sad when watching the episode. I've been watching the first two series again but I've seen the episodes so many times. I know that they were all total opposites from each other but the final episode kinda showed why they got along, they really don't get along that's the thing but they are almost stuck together because despite being total opposites, in terms of social standing they are exactly the same. I'll need to watch the final episode on catch-up again. It seemed really, I dunno, strange? Having such a casual final line and final scene with them walking away. It's good that it put some things to rest and if I'm honest, another five hundred series would have been great, just not so special.
We often hear that sitcom writers should avoid things like swearing, or subplots which don't go anywhere, but this show merrily contradicts all that advice & still ends up working, despite or because of those aspects.
Gutted this has finished, I didn't think the third series was as good as the preceding two, but maybe my expectations were too high, I'm also a bit miffed that they only did one series for the whole school year I thought they would do another series and then the movie, oh well still got the movie to look forward to. I just hope it does not turn out too much like Kevin and Perry, I also hope they cut back a bit on the characters vomitting!
I'm with those who thought this series was a bit weaker.
But it was still enjoyable.
I think it also shows how this show appeals to different people in different ways.
I preferred the last few episodes where I thought it was a bit more realistic, but many people I've spoken to had the opposite view preferring the more cartoony stuff of the first couple of episodes.

So do a shed load of shows on at the moment. In fact I've never heard that advice.
I only just got round to watching the series. I thought the first three episodes were as good as any that have gone before, but the last three lacked slightly. Episodes 5&6 especially. I didn't like the last episode so much. However, I think they picked the right character to lose his virginity first.
I'd already guessed the STD gag before it was paid off at the end. I felt episode 6 was just kind of predictable really. I didn't like how they were all sick at the end. Series 3, for me, was not as good as series 1 and 2, but I still think that on a second viewing in a year or so, I will maybe think differently, as you are always quite judgmental on the first viewing.
Looking forward to the movie though. Should be good.
