British Comedy Guide

How do you promote your internet comedy show?

Hey guys.

Thought I'd start a discussion concerning websites or techniques on how to promote your comedy films online.

Whats available to Independent/self-funded shows that don't have much resources to spend on advertisement?

We're just starting out and are racking our brains of ways to get people hear about it

Any ideas?

The Guild.

Honestly, the only way to get big on the internet is to make a good video and hope people spread it. Advertising and keywords and stuff only attract a very small amount of people comparatively. If people like your stuff they'll make it popular for you.

Door-to-door leafleting? Put a card in the window of your local newsagent? Both tried and tested methods for internet success, I believe.

Put a note on a brick and put it through car windows. It will definitely get read.

Maybe release a hundred helium-filled balloons with details of your website written on them - plus a lovely chocolate tied to each by a piece of string? That's how Google got started.

Thanks, Yeah

FXhome.com has an effects based community. Which has a lot of films of different quality. Was wondering if there was a comedy one?

funnyordie.com?

Unfortunately the UK version died though :(

I keep meaning to make an animation for my book ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Memoirs-bar-steward-14th-25th-August/dp/B003X9571W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1281014319&sr=8-1 ). I'm an animator ( http://lookcreativedesigns.blogspot.com/ ) but with work I just haven't got time right now, but I've got something planned to do as soon as I can and put it on YouTube

I have a ring with my website embossed on it backwards. That way when I sucker punch people on the street it leaves my calling card imprinted on their forehead/balls/children.

Make a really good viral ad/trailer, hope the YouTube collecting love it. That's what I'd do.

I've got an idea for a viral but I dunno if A)its a shit idea or B)it's a bad idea

Here's the idea

I'll have a cartoon verison of my main character, based on the book cover design http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4080/4869014615_28393b334b.jpg

It'll be a head and shoulders shot to start with, with him holding up his book, prompting it, along the lines of

"Read all about me, Jacob Cox and my biggest mission yet, to get inside the Queens legs and sort out all the shit! It's gonna get nasty but if I'm going to raise to the occasions this needs doing, and fast!"

He then puts on a Rambo type bandanna turns around and walks off, revealing the Queens Legs is a pub.

The rivalry between the main characters bar and the pub down the road is one of the main aspects of the story, though not the only, so I could do more virals that are different
