I think I've finally got a little stung into replying.
Ouch! First of all Sir Saffron Walden is about one of my most succesful sketches. And one of maybe a half a dozen I've acted in, it's not really about bestiality is it? (my gran I must say loved it and she's a most upright character). It's more about embarassment.
I have to say James I don't go a bomb on Urinal or Plinth. And I think I've said they were written as visual not audio sketches. They were part of a much earlier project (Date, Tube, Plinth..Urinal was part of an aborted sequel). Which though probably one of the best things I wrote has been my very on cursed Marie Celeste of a sketch.
Take out the visuals and the other scenes and what was a rather mordant sketch on despair, becomes well just a bit rude. And the colonel is more of a sad Walter Mitty figure pushing a stuffed dog around London and thinking of times gone.
That's sort of lost.
As it would appear is my reputation. I haven't written a topical sketch since News Jack and looking through my last couple of months a work I haven't written anything really sweary, scatological or obsene.
Well if you were really harsh you could say "Racist Chemist with a small penis" was about willies. But it's about Little Englander racism, was that point lost?
Ultimately the rep of Sootyj seems to have rather overshadowed that of Joel the writer.
Even in the absence of either...
