What are these things called?
Whatever they are, what would you write inside the flaps?
Salt Cellar
We used to call them fortune tellers. You'd move them back and forth using the numbers people pick to know how many times to move them. Then they'd choose a flap. Under the flap would be your fortune.
We made TONNES as kids. In different sizes. Nice ones, horrible ones, with colours some plain. I can still make them now I think.

We called them fortune tellers. We'd write colours on the four outside bits, numbers on the first inside bits, then "fortunes" inside. A useful tool for teaching children that all forms of fortune telling are hogwash.
Oddly, I'm about to shoot a sketch that features one of these and was just recently asking the very same question.
One question: what's with the thread title?

The Origami name is 'salt cellar', so that's the name I used.
I see. Cheers.

I had to greatly restrain from publicising my eyjoyment of the word flaps. I'm glad you did it first.
I can't remember what we called them. But it hasn't been said so far.

I'm a weak, weak man!
So, we haven't quite pinned down the name, but what about the 'fortunes' you might write in them, now that you are a fully-clever grown-up?
When I was at school, we'd just write "You are a c**t" behind every flap.

C**t flaps?

We used to say things like "you will meet the man of your dreams tomorrow" or "look out for a black cat" and crap like that.
