Terrible actors in good films Page 2

Tim Roth never does anything good.

(Reservoir Dogs being the exception)

The acting equivalent of the Pompidou Centre. You are never allowed to forget for a second that they are acting.

If you say so. Certainly I don't think anything of him these days, but he was most definitely great in the past.

And the thread goes back on topic.

Robert De Niro has made loads of great movies. Raging Bull. Taxi Driver. King of Comedy. Heat. Goodfellas. Casino.

Mean Streets, he's fantastic in Mean Streets, that first scene when he swaggers into the bar with a Rolling Stones track blasting out, oh yes!

Goodfellas is watchable.

Goodfellas is watchable.

Good Lord. :P

I put it to you, sir, that you are not qualified to start a film thread!

Cable Guy is ace. Jim Carrey is damned good.

Cable Guy is ace.

I remember it being kicked a lot when it came out, I think mainly because Carrey was due a kicking and there'd been a lot of negative press about his huge paycheque for the role, but I've always thought it was great, surprisingly dark.

Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love.

Correct! He's actually pretty ace in it.

Sandler's great in that, indeed. So, therefore, not a terrible actor.

My main problem with Goodfellas is that it glamorises violent criminals and acts as an apology for the ghastly Henry Hill. I grant you that it is well made.

This thread would be better off called, "Actors you usually can't stomach in ace movies."

Just someone who chooses to write and star in terrible films.

(I actually really like The Wedding Singer though)

Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Terminator

Elliot Gould in M*A*S*H

Steven Siegel in Under Siege

Steve Martin in The Man With Two Brains

Jeremy Irons in Appaloosa

I love Tim Roth in Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. And especially that one where he's in prison and has an affair with the prison dentist lady. That one's brilliant. Captives, possibly?
