British Comedy Guide

Terrible actors in good films

Actors who normally bring you out in hives but who succeeded in starring in a good film without ruining it.

I'll kick off with:

Jim Carrey in The Truman Show

Robin Williams in The Fisher King

Jack Nicholson in Chinatown

Nicholas Cage in Raising Arizona

Keanu Reeves in Speed

I'd definitely go with Keanu Reeves in the original Matrix or indeed anything he's been in bar Bill & Ted.

I thought that the Truman show was a brilliant idea that ended up being a bit rubbish.
I couldn't believe it when they were talking about Carrey for an Oscar.
He was a lot better in the Mask.

Madonna in Die Another Day

The word Madonna in an acting thread is self explanatory

Yes Madonna is particularly awful when she tries to act

Whatever Leo de Caprio has been in that people rave about.

Tom Cruise in A Few Good Men.

A dead horse would put in a better performance, in fact I bet even Madonna would agree with that.

Tom Cruise in A Few Good Men.

Leonardo DiCaprio is amazing! Angry

Nic Cage in anything.

Tim Roth - he simply can't act.

Kevin Spacey - he can act but boy does he kill a movie with his creepyness.

Tim Roth never does anything good. Kevin Spacey is far too up his own arse, otherwise I might like him.

Russell Crowe in Gladiator. I can't stand him but everytime I watch Glad' I like it more. I didn't really like it the first time.

Colin Farrell in 'In Bruges'

And Leonardo Di Caprio is incredible. Double Angry ; so Angry Angry, I suppose.

Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love. Steven Seagal in that Die Hard on a ship movie where he's a special ops chef. And Jennifer Lopez in Out of Sight.

Dustin Hoffman in Marathon Man

Mark Wahlberg in Three Kings

Robert de Niro in Midnight Run

Val Kilmer in Tombstone

Victor Mature in My Darling Clementine, also playing Doc Holliday; it seems even the worst actors are capable of a convincing consumptive cough.

Dustin Robert de Niro

Huh?

I like that creepyness!

I actually like Jim Carrey in several very good films, too; such as Eternal Sunshine, Dumb And Dumber and The Cable Guy.

I like that creepyness!

It positively added to Seven, Swimming With Sharks, LA Confidential and The Usual Suspects.

Huh?

The acting equivalent of the Pompidou Centre. You are never allowed to forget for a second that they are acting.
