BBC's New Writing Initiatives Page 22

Shall I consider myself told off then, or is an opinion not counted unless it suits?
Congrats BTW,

Congrats BTW,

I never disputed your opinion. At all. I just suggest you give the writers a chance. If the final selection results in a sizeable flopperoonies, then fine. A writer had a great experience and the BBC took an honourable risk. I don't remember claiming that your thoughts had to replicate my own for them to be acceptable to me. That would just be boring really. But I really don't mind...Meh meh meh.

I normally stay away from these sorts of forums because of discussions like this. They get a bit aggressive. :( I will back out again as of now. It was a little bit self-indulgent of me, but I couldn't help but get curious...I've passively surfed this website for years, so all of a sudden this thing turns up on it and I had a gander. So pfft :) I just genuinely hope I can make good of this opportunity. Who knows. Maybe you might change your mind ;)

*runs away*

Good luck Sophie.
Well done.

####Nah we don't. We're dull as piss-water :( I spent Hannukah playing Ping-Pong...
Who knows. Maybe you might change your mind ;)####

After your 'ping-pong' quip, I most likely will, now that is very funny...the quip I mean.

2500 posts -- how have you *still* not figured out the 'Quote' button!?!?

Dan

Well done Sophie, hope it is a hit.

Because I quoted from Sophie's two different posts and I don't know how to do that.

Well done,Sophie.
Not for getting to the finals, obviously.
(That will undoubtedley crash and burn - especially if it's funny - kiss of death, apparentley).
But, rather, for sticking up for your work, and reminding us all that you never know who might be reading.

Good luck and keep us posted

Don't be silly, good on you for getting where you are with this, good on you for commentating on it, good on you for engaging here, keep it up! Go Sophie! :)

Tragedy is: it's not a fabricated anecdote.

Haha 'engaging', I don't think I'm 'industry' enough yet to call 'wasting time on the internet' 'engaging' :) ;) :P I'm just a tool really, who got her fingers burned while accidentally checking out the negative press. Writersroom blog is getting pretty vicious too. Things like that genuinely don't bother me. I know that sounds unlikely but it's true. The strange thing is suddenly being exposed to it! Suddenly a little logline of mine is meat in the line of fire whereas four days ago I was just sat in a lecture being taught how to present oneself in an interview at bloody marketing companies :S My Mum even rang me to tell me that work colleagues of hers had come running up to her saying they saw my name on 'a website'! She was very excited...

I then had to tell her what Facebook was ;)

But thanks Marc. Very nice of you :) I'm nervous but working hard, and my little sit-com brain baby is becoming something of an adolescent. Here's hoping I do ok!

Well done Sophie. Hope it all goes well!

BB, how to quote is here: https://www.comedy.co.uk/info/help/bb_codes/
(but it's just the word 'quote' in square brackets and '/quote' similarly to end)

the Bournemouth Tramp rates it very highly...

Send my regards to John Foster.

My opinion [OP] was not vicious, it was an honest/direct personal opinion.[a Northern trait] but not vicious, tactless perhaps. But some of the replies are vicious.
If one cannot have a debate on here without sarcastic, hateful retorts/replies, it becomes a mutual admiration society.
My criticism was aimed at the beeb and not the writers.
I have looked at the blog of Michael and again the posts are opinions. Some I disagree with as they are going on about the qualifications needed to enter the comp. But these were stipulated in the terms and conditions.
I entered the comp at the last minute as I already had a sitcom scripted about a mixed-culture family.
Michael further up states that they are not looking for family sitcoms, they've been done....that was not stipulated in the terms and conditions, or I wouldn't have bothered to enter. [but what sort of belies Michael's post is the recent Grandma's House. Family sitcoms still rule, ok ] The comp was to write about the subject 'All Mixed Up'
But regardless, I did not expect to be a winner nor a long lister, my pleasure was in the chase.
I have explained my reasons for not being impressed with two of the premises. One 'Joking Apart' and the other that lottery stories have been done to death...so to speak. This was not aimed at the writers and I have said good luck and congrats etc to them.
I have one more comp to enter, after that I intend to put my pen and paper away for good. I do think my age is against me too.

Jesus Bush, you're always the victim aren't you? The reason that people 'turn against you' is that your posts come accross as so bitter and misjudged for the most part. I usually just read this thread and not comment because I am interested in what is going on at the Beeb, but pages of interesting discussion are marred by your venom and indignation at things which don't meet with your school of thought. I don't know if your posts are reactionary, but maybe you should try walking away from the PC instead of posting. You always come accross badly from it.

I am sorry for posting this. It must be my Northern tactlessness.

I wrote a sitcom early this year about two young men flat sharing...I know they don't want flat sharing either but one has to write what's in the head.
In the second episode a nine months pregnant young woman visits and asks the two young men what they propose to do about the baby. An argument ensues and she goes into labour [muddle/middle] Eventually she has the baby in the kitchen, we don't see it. At the end one of the young men brings the baby in, it is black. The two young men are white.
I got to thinking about Joking Apart and how the beeb disapproved and that if they didn't think divorce proper to comedy, they wouldn't approve of mine and it would end up on the slush pile. So I tore that episode up and started again.
Nat, posts are similar to texts and emails, you can't see/hear the mood of the person and they can be taken the wrong way. But once that happens, it's difficult to have other texts/emails received without the same reaction. A lot of my remarks are tongue in cheek and wit but I fail to see why a smiley should always follow the post as this sort of spoils the 'joke'
People just love controversy as these threads prove, they go on for ever. whereas someone's work put up on here receives a few replies.
