POPCORN - the sitcom

Hey everyone

not sure if its appropriate to post this here, but if not im sure it will get taken down, I just thought it something a lot of people may be interested in

I have ben working on the pilot for a sitcom for a while, We have been shooting the last couple of weeks in Crosby in Liverpool. Its about a bunch of film geeks that work in a cinema, bullying the customers, each other and seeing how little work they can get away with

anyway check out the trailer which I posted on YouTube and let us know what you think?

THE SITCOM IS ADULT THEME AND HAS SOME STRONG LANGUAGE

although the trailer isnt too bad

Andy :)

The trailer is quite well done but the actual content looks almost exactly like a British comedy film by the same name. Might be worth checking that out to ensure you aren't just treading old ground.

thanks for the reply

I know the film you mean, I wrote this as a feature film script about 6 years ago, well before that film came out, and when I saw that released it went to one side, then a few years after I thought it would make a good idea for a sitcom, and that it was different enough from that film to still work

we decided we would change the name, but then nearly everyone I spoke to hadnt even heard of the film you are referring to, it did that bad!! so we decided sod it, keep the name!! it fits too well

sothat's the story, and yes basically I'm saying I HAD THE IDEA FIRST haha

Well done on getting out there and making this thing. Hope you learned plenty from it.

Moved thread. Welcome to the BCG. :)

thanks man

sorry about that

Wow, really well done it looks great. Hope you are happy with it. Keep us posted on how it goes.

thanks man

really appreciated

I might post some more stuff on here when we progress, maybe in critique as id love to get peoples opinions on it

Andy

Well if I can smile more it reminds me of a British version of a few Kevin Smith movies. Kevin Smith is my favourite Movie Director and Writer.

set design looks great, would have liked to hear a bit more dialogue, there was a related video on YouTube though same sort of thing

oops sorry didn't see the post and watched your interview, never heard of that film till now. must have dived

Hey Lee

well I'm definitely a Kevin Smith fan myself, got a framed Clerks poster in my living room, so I guess there may be some influence

and swansonite, thanks for the compliment on the set design, can't really take credit for that tho, just got lucky to find a great independent cinema that let us film there haha, ill try and post a few samples with a bit of dialogue to get some feedback off everyone, but I have just uploaded a rough cut of the opening titles if anyone wants to look at that

thanks

Don't know that the poster edges filter you've used there is doing you any favours. You really want to feature your stars in the title sequence - not just their outlines. Unless your stars are iconic and easily reduced to caricatures - as with the IT Crowd.

I wondered where he'd got to. Thanks for clearing-up the mystery. :)

i agree with david bussell, not a fan of the poster edges. the office and extras don't bother with big openings.

maybe as your cast are not well known something summing up the sitcom quickly and leave the credits to the end?

ps

"the office and extras don't bother with big openings"

my point that the office cast were unknowns, worked for them, gte straight into the action

Hey

thanks for the feedback, I didn't really factor whether or not the actors are well known into the equation. Although we have no money, and its impossible to create a sitcom that would be ready for television, we still wanted to make an episode that hints at what it would look like if it were made for broadcast

With that in mind, I think the opening titles should be quite big, and as we have had theme music written specifically for it, would be a shame not to use it. The whole look of the episode has a certain nostalgic quality to it, with some quite retro electro music thrown in aswell etc and I feel the titles are a bit of a throwback, like some bad AHA video, but I think it works for this purpose

I agree the titles work on the office and extras, which are both great shows, but very different to this

oh and swansonite, had a look at the village swanson trailer, looks really good, ill have a look at more stuff when I get the chance!!
