Rational and Irrational fears Page 12

Sometimes, if I think about it too much, I convince myself I can't swallow. :/

(No 'swallow' based rudenesses, please.)

What about a straight-forward foul comment about spunky in gob-gob?

Is it too late to say no?

Bit.

Ocassionally I become very conscious of my tongue and think I'm going to swallow it. And the more I think about it the more convinced I become.

Christ, Chip! You're one seething mass of neuroses!

*gets out notepad, lights pipe*

So, tell me about your mother...

I'm not the only one then!

I've chosen to take the word of Stephen Fry from a recent episode of QI. You can't swallow your tongue. Whether it's actually true or not, I don't care.

It's not. You can't swallow your tongue. Your tongue, however, can drift posteriorly (usually due to reduced/lost consciousness) - leading to laryngeal obstruction, hypoxia and imminent death.

So, really, it's an irrational fear. :)

I never thought the tongue could detach itself from the inside of my mouth and travel down my throat. But whenever I coughed because of my tongue I'd normally panic slightly. But not so much anymore, I've got over most of my um, -craziness :)

Really? Sounds like you need to get some better shit, my friend! Cool

Not on my watch, bub! In the event of a tongue swallowing incident I'm ready to puncture my own throat with a Siwss Army Knife and then insert a drinking straw in the hole to breathe through! Oh. I'm prepared. Cool

I'm like that with breathing. I start feeling like it's something I have to concentrate on else it won't happen.

You've thought about this quite a bit, haven't you?

I think that's known as a panic attack, dear. :(

Ssh! I'm hoping that if I sound convincing enough I can get Leevil to practice self-tracheotomies! ;)

I'm waaay-ahead of you my friend. I'm even typing this with the Biro.

It's not when I'm panicking... just random times.
