Lakers in London

Any basketball fans?

From my time in the UK, basketball wasn't that popular, but that was a decade ago.

The L.A. Lakers will be facing the Minnesota Timberwolves in London next Monday.

Interesting note, the L.A. Lakers were originally the Minneapolis (Minnesota) Lakers and moved to L.A. in 1960. That is where they get their 'Laker' nickname, Minnesota is that 'Land of 10,000 lakes.'

If anyone goes, please chant 'Beat L.A.' as that is the chant that northern Californians chant whenever northern California sports teams play southern California teams.

Why are they playing in London?

Sick Sick Lakers Sick Sick

Trying to develop a new market, I suppose. Basketball is becoming more global and England is probably the easiest beachhead to Europe for the NBA

Ahh, I see.
I used to like it when I was at school, we went to watch the finals every year.
I'm not interested in any sport now.

It appears that basketball is more popular among the former colonies. In the FIBA rankings GBR is ranked 56 with 8 former colonies (maybe 9, don't know much about the Virgin Islands--were they Dutch?) ahead of them, including India.

Ouch!
We are rubbish then. Pretty much the same as with every other sport. :)

Basketball is rubbish.

You can keep it.

What's a basket-ball?

So is this one where men in pyjamas and chav caps play rounders? The one where homosexuals in armour play rugby in slow motion? Or the one where tall coloured follows run around a bit of wooden floor?

run around a bit of wooden floor?

Really? How gauche! Unimpressed
