Seriously. Like, start now.

That's sweet too.

Thanks!

You're welcome.

You're welcome.

What's your advice rwayne, by the way as you don't like any of what has been given. Genuine thoughts though, as internet web sniping is a tad dull.

Twonk.

Twonk.

Yeah, twink!

Marc...I think maybe I've been a little misunderstood.I am not really in a position to give any advice on writing DOs and DONTs.
The sum total of my 'experience' is entering the sitcom mission.
What I do find a little irritating is the rapidity,of some,to jump down the throats of people who ask genuine questions on here. That is a sure way of discouraging people from asking them which I think would be a shame.
Clearly some questions from new writers might seem a little obvious to lots of you on here but,at some time, all of you didn't know the answers either.
I've read quite a number of posts on here and quite a lot seem to be at best a little unfriendly...correcting spelling/punctuation/content of questions and the like. There ARE some that seem to revel in the opportunity to try and put someone down.As for the internet sniping...I couldn't agree with you more,I find it ridiculous but it happens and no doubt will continue just seems a pity.
I would imagine there are a few, now, going through my post putting in the paragraphs and full stops and so on but there you go.

Hey,

thanks for all the replies, I only joined the forum a week ago so wasn't sure if anyone would bother to reply with their views...
i would probably agree that the whole 'if a company doesn't accept unsol scripts it doesn't accept unsol scripts' wasn't helpful but those same people did give me some advice so thanks, everything I've read about writing has highlighted how difficult the stage Im at can be so I haven't been dispirited by the comments,

i based my letter approach on page 372 of the writers and artists yearbook 2010 which says ' if you feel that a certain prod company is absolutely right for your project, write a letter giving a brief synopsis of the project and asking if they will read the script.. if they agree, your script will join the solicited pile'. so my question was how do you make this approach more likley to ne successful?

anyways I said it was my 'first script' and I should really have said 'first project' because my first, second, third script attempts have all gone in the bin long ago and a feel quite happy with my final work. I know I might not get anywhere with the script so I won't be giving up the day job, but I do enjoy writing ..

anyways I will send a letter to a few more prod companies, some of you guys seemed concerned that the answers weren't helpful for me, thanks for your concern people

what are your opinions on just sending my first episode to the bbc writersroom,it take it this the lazy, risky approach?

hit me with your wise head knowledge.

I don't revel in having to remind a person (repeatedly) to make some reasonable effort to write properly, as per the rules of the board.
I'm sure you can understand, I have other things I'd rather be doing. :)

and I know my questions may seem a bit simple, but I'm an expert in other fields,

Perhaps you don't quite get the general theme of the advice.

Write to the producer not the production company.

Here's a little story from my experience.

1 Entered prodcos open talent sketch contest (no cash prize etc)
2 Fail to get in but write for feedback.
3 Producer/script reader liked my stuff.
4 Wrote back said thanks, asked if he'd be interested in reading more sketches.
5 He says yes. Send them he shares them with a topical radio show.
6 They turn them down.

A miss but a near miss. Of course you can try other means. But looks at writing as any other professional skill.

Would you hire a plumber because he really likes toilets and reckons he could fix your's a treat? Or a driving instructor who watched every episode of Top Gear?

You'd go for reccomendations and reputation.

Oh and same producer read one of my sitcom scripts 6 months later.

Took me about a year to get there. Didn't get picked up.

But keep trying.

Well, it's failed to discourage a lot of people so far, if the number of threads is anything to go by - so perhaps the responses are appreciated.
It's pretty simple, really.
Those who get something from the experience, stay.
Those who find it irritating tend to drift off.
Seems to work.

Good God...seriously,why all the aggression?.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the 'rules' of posting on a website.
I will say this - this is the only forum I post on...I don't like 'talking' on the internet.I am of an age that I am not comfortable doing it.It seems strange, though, that what I have said has caused such a reaction.I genuinely find it odd.
This is new stuff to me so,maybe,(quite possibly)I don't understand it.I don't know if this site is commercial, the internet, generally,is a mystery to me.I'm not even sure what a 'moderator' is.
What I do understand, though,is that some posts directed to me are a little strange.Zooo...you have taken something I've said to be directed toward you, personally,it wasn't!.I will say, however,if your biggest worry in life is the spaces I leave after a full stop, you are very fortunate indeed. Also,if it is your job,so to do,maybe don't single one person out when every post could stand to be corrected...that's just strange. :)

What agression?

I dunno just trying to be helpful.

Might go back to throwing carrots at rabbits, or rabbits at carrots I forget which is which,
