Question about sitcom character's job/occupation. Page 2

Of course Hancock used to basically have the same set of characters but they had totally different jobs every week.

Don't pilots fly for a few days and then have a few off? Then you could have him sitting around at home for long periods of time.

That's what I was looking at. He couldn't be away typically because then he'd be away from his home all the time.

Basically I wanted it to be a family sitcom like The Simpsons but I'm worried that would be too unoriginal, so I thought of the idea of the dad being a pilot (metaphorically speaking) to make it sound a bit different and more interesting. I wanted it to have plots around their house, away in different locations but also one-off plots based around a plot from a part-time job (which he could temporarily do between being away).

Still think you're making a rod for your own back with very little discernible benefit - but I get the feeling you're not going to be told.
Best thing is probably to get on and write it and see if it really needs all that complication.
Then post it in Critique!
Good luck.

It's not that I'm not accepting and ignoring what you're saying, I just had a bit more info to say that I didn't fit into the first post, as I didn't want it to be too long.

I'm now thinking about two separate shows, one a family sitcom and one about a "pilot" going around the world, now for the messy divorce to see who gets the characters/plots/running jokes/DVD collection and so on.

Not to sound rude but the pilot thing was a metaphor so it's actually about something different, which is actually just as well, as I saw there's to be a similar animated sitcom idea happening soon, phew.

Thanks to all who replied. :)

See, you started off with one Sit-Com - now you've got two!
That's the kind of comedy magic that can only happen on the BCG.

Good luck and keep us posted.

You start off asking for feedback on an idea about a jobbing pilot - then go on to say it's not about a pilot at all. How can people be constructive if you are not honest about the actual content of your plots? Just a thought. :)

He could be an assassin?

How ever you have just described the plot of; The Simpsons, The Flintsones, American Dad etc etc.

So unless you have an USP you're going to struggle to get people to read it.

However dad jobs that allow for travel.

1 Pilot
2 Assassin
3 President of the USA
4 KGB Spy
5 Reichsmarshal
6 Time lord
7 Pirate
8 Pirate timelord
9 Ninja
10 Serial killer

You're close, the answer is actually:

11. All of the above.
(I wanted to make him a breadmaker as well as all of that, but that's just silly.) :)

To answer Mezz' question about not being a pilot, the reason was because I'm new to this. I'm not saying I don't trust anyones, but I AM very paranoid.
