Does anyone else have a problem the way actors say their lines at break neck speed today? It seems to be the latest fashion but me (70 yr old) and my hubby (85) just cannot keep up. I'm just watching a drama 'Knocked Up' on ITV and the dialogue is so fast it's not possible to get it....for us. Channels must be so terrified of 'you' switching over that they have the actors 'gabbling' their lines. I give up
I often fimd myself watching american movies & can't understand the dialogue.
Whether that's the actors or the cheap DVDs I buy down the market I'm not sure.
Knocked Up the Seth Roegan film? That's a comedy.
I can't say I've personally noticed actors talking too fast to comprehend on a regular basis. Though snappy exchanges are nothing new, there are all those old American screwball comedies, such as Bringing Up Baby, that are renowned for their super fast, snappy dialogue exchanges.
It's the fast editing that gets right on my tits. Most pop videos drive me mad with editing so quick you can't get a good blimp 
I hate the overuse of hand held cameras. Makes me dizzy.
You should try watching Gilmore Girls!
That's the only show where they talk too fast for me to understand. They're quite famous for it.
I have, fairly mild, tinnitus.
Too much Black Sabbath on headphones way back when.
As a result I have trouble picking up on conversations, sound tracks etc.
I love South Park but miss such a lot without sub-titles which don't seem to be available a lot of the time.
His Girl Friday had really great fast dialogue. Gilmore Girls is another great example.

Yeah, but I live in NY and we're used to people talking super fast. It's really difficult for us when we go down south where everything is much slower.
I never understood a word my Granddad used to say. I don't think there were spaces between his words.

Nope, but I always have subtitles on whenever available (in English or original language) and I've never seen Gilmore Girls. Could your problem be due to gradual deterioration in hearing? Like how many people need reading glasses by age 45, perhaps their hearing also begins to decline as they get older (especially if they've worked with noisy machinery)? If you want some films with good slow-speed dialogue, Clint Eastwood's Westerns are generally pretty easy on the ears (and English subtitled).

I've got great hearing but hubby always wants the titles on but this was so quick I couldn't read the titles quick enough. I thought the same about Grandma's House sitcom
