I don't recall McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC and such crap being super-cheap when I lived in the UK. It was always better value for money to buy groceries from ASDA (or even Sainsburys) and make meals, rather than buy insipid "fast food". The only reason for going to my local McDonald's was to change counterfeit 20 pound notes: get in line at the till with the youngest trainee, order small fries, pay for it with bent note, receive legit change and exit.

Of course if you're out and need a quick snack, buying ingredients isn't the most handy idea.
