I've been writing comedy part-time since 2008 and have credits with Newsjack, Tilt, Watson's Wind-Up, Never Write Off The German's, Treason Show.
So I feel I've made decent progress in that time and I'm now working on TV and film spec scripts as well as changing my workload and making more contacts so I can do more writing.
So I guess I have some experience and some success but wouldn't class myself as either.
I co-created Friends.

I have been unsucessful with submissions for NewsJack, Parsons and Naylor, Talking and not Talking and News Review. I sold 2 jokes to the 118 118 Joke Service. And had a pilot sitcom script commissioned by the BBC.

They dropped it, unfortunately. I've now got another project sitting with ITV but haven't heard anything on that one.

I think there are a couple of posters on here that I'd say fit that bill but whether you'd consider them to be good writers or not is a different matter. There is stuff that gets on TV or published that doesn't seem (to me) to be that good. But hey, people are trying to make money don't forget, and commercial people are often picking what gets out there on that basis only.
I think there are a lot more writers on this web site who have dipped their toes into the water and had a moderate bit of luck on radio and/or live sketch shows and maybe some minor TV stuff, and such. Possibly they are better writers than those who have more experience and/or commercial success. Who can say?
In fact, I am sure my sitcom about bat-droppings collectors would stack up against 'Only fools and horses' any day of the week, if only..
