I agree with both of those statements.

I still like Charlie Sheen though.

He was ace in Platoon.

###Mimicking a Sergio Leone film, now that would be a real challenge with a camcorder.###

I don't know, comedy is exaggeration
:D

P.S. How do you record stuff with a webcam, if you can?

I'm not sure trying to mimic a 35mm film on a webcam would really be an "exaggeration". More an aberration if anything.

Are you asking how I shoot on a webcam? It's pretty simple is you have a mac, it's built right in - just point and click.

PS. Here's a great western spoof... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQZDFv0aTlk

I meant my suggestion of 'airplane' was an exaggeration :)

I have a Windows webcam but there are no icons to click on 'record' I guess I am am thick where technology is concerned

You need a program to record. Most webcams come with a software disc with one on. Just Google how to record with a webcam, I'm sure you'll find loads of tutorials.

I did enjoy him in that film and Young Guns when I was growing up definitely. I know nothing of his alleged misogynistic tendencies. Referring to a previous comment though I do think the acting's fairly shoddy in Two and a Half Men but then that's just my opinion.

I take the point that parody often relies hugely on exaggeration. The makers of Airplane however, to bring this back to Boomerang's sketch, were very careful to mimic the Airport movies they were sending up in look and feel, which is one of the reasons it was so successful. Trying to mimic a slick American sitcom using a webcam is like doing an impression of Tony Blair that looks and sounds nothing like him, then expecting people to make the connection. And then to laugh.

Regarding webcams, sorry, I'm a technology dunce too, which is why I have a Mac. I couldn't begin to explain how a Windows product works, they seem to go out of their way to not be intuitive.

Nothing to do with webcams but I had a look at your blog and it made me very nostalgic for my last stand-up gigs, and has made me more determined than ever to go and do some more. There seem to be a lot of comedy open mic nights in the North-East. Maybe I need to start one down in the south-west as they are few and far between.

Still doesn't explain how Dead Ringers was so popular.

I see what you're saying about this although the clue is in the title with this one. You're right that we didn't get the details spot on though by any stretch of the imagination as neither of us find it physically possible to sit through a whole episode of Two and a Half men and so can't analyse it too closely. Perhaps we should have spoken to the friends of ours who enjoy the show!

Ok, at this point I have to confess that I was once a guest on Channel 4's Countdown and the guest in dictionary corner was Jan Ravens from Dead RIngers. I can't really remember anything she said, which backs up your point I guess!

There is one in Souhampton and some in the New Forest aren't there? I was surprised with how many there were around me. You should scour the interwebs.

Guest as in audience member, guest as in panel, or guest as in contestant??

Contestant. It was in about January 2005 the show was aired I think. At that point I had short hair and no beard - Richard Whiteley said I looked like Rowan Atkinson.

Laughing out loud Where's the clip? C'mon!

Southampton's still quite a mission for me, especially with my limited funds, but I'll certainly look into it. I do go to general open mic nights sometimes - in a way I like that a lot 'cause it's a challenge to impress audiences who are primarily there to hear music, but sometimes it's frustrating and at least if you go down badly in front of a comedy audience you can't blame the fact that it wasn't a comedy night.

There isn't one that I'm aware of. My parents have the episode on VHS somewhere I think, but that's it I'm afraid. For the record I was up against a bloke called Fred Deakin who was on a winning streak at the time. I got him down to the conundrum and there were only a few points in it but he spotted it first - it was 'underline.'
