Rorschach Test Page 4

Well it's excellent up to this bit, which I don't understand.

DOCTOR:
(READING ALOUD AS HE MAKES A NOTE) "Subject demonstrates total immunity to subtext..."

Although it is reminiscent of the joke Sooty mentions.

VIDEO:
For me it's only funny if the guy sees men f**king where there are none. The reversal where he sees inkblots where there are men f**king seems over-conceptualized to me. Nice prop though. Lovingly made - by Laws, obviously. The crown was also a nice touch, although a tiara would be more accurate.

Acting; much better from Dave - no cocaine eyes and good normal-dude hair. But why wasn't Stott on the couch? He could have added another tier of irony, since he's so gay looking. And sounding.

The joke, as I've said before, is that the psychiatrist is showing the patient the images in an effort to none-too-subtly persuade him to have sex with him. Some people are getting it, others are not. I'll admit it's not the easiest idea to grapple with as people might be watching the setup thinking it's going to end exactly like the old joke Sooty mentioned.

I should add that the sodomy image was of my own making and that I've never acted under the influence of cocaine. A couple of cans of Mountain Dew was all I needed to get the authentic drugged up to the eyeballs look I was wearing in the IT Trouble sketch.

Thank you!

Okay, I get it now...

Shit, I lost it again.

To be honest I understood the having sex with the patient bit (you explained that earlier in the thread), it's the subtext line I don't get. And I'm not being disingenuous/a c**t - I really don't get what you mean.

Sorry if I've given the impression you're a cocaine user. You just seem really peppy.

Essentially, while the written sketch has a brutal, astringent poetry (and would be fantastic on the radio), the filmed sketch is unclassifiable and confusing. You both seem constrained and forced, although I can see that you're working hard.

The prop really is lovingly done - and has the spontaneity and cheeky cleverness I associate with you clowns.

Thank you!

You son of a bitch!

I was thinking it was very clever to hang a real Rorschach painting on the wall, until you referred to it. Pleased Then I realised you weren't being clever at all, just needed that prop.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by subtext. Did I use that word earlier? Forgive me if I did, it's too grand a word for what I was getting at if so. If I used it at all I was probably trying to describe the psychiatrist's MO, which is obviously the punchline of the sketch. If there is a subtext, I'm unaware of it. Perhaps that psychiatry isn't to be trusted? Did I mention I'm a Scientologist?

I felt it was better to have the picture on the wall and refer to it subtly rather than open with something like this...

DOCTOR:
So, we're going to be looking at some Rorscach tests today. They're inkblot tests in case you didn't know, like the patterns on that fellow's face in the comic book and laterly the movie, Watchmen. His name was Rorschach too. Now let's get started.

:)

Can I just add twists on familiar jokes are some of my favourite and I think cleverest jokes around.

This was a nifty little sketch with a music hall feel.

I think it's a very good point to be made for any sketch writers/producers. Like you say, If I didn't know what was going on, you're instantly up-to-date with a visual clue like that. Moves things on faster.

I sometimes wonder if a lot of sketch makers on YouTube forget subtle details like this and wonder why they have to explain what's going on post-production.
