Yet it's suprising how many great shows are great from episode one. Peep Show. Father Ted. 30 Rock. Fawlty Towers... And film makers, playwrites and novelists only have one chance to succeed.

That's true also.

Grandma's House Episode by Episode Review

Episode 1 - Atrocious. Unfunny.

Episode 2 - Mostly atrocious. A couple of half-decent gags about Simon's car. Missed an opportunity to almost run over a homeless person at the end of the episode.

Episode 3 - Found its legs brilliantly. The whole scene where Simon tried to banter the lad he had a crush on was hilarious.

Episode 4 - See Episode 1

Episode 5 - Very funny. A cracking gag about giving his Aunt AIDS.

Episode 6 - ?

I haven't seen ep. 5 yet, but I would say that it's been funnier with successive eps. Lots of good laughs in ep 4, I thought. Very well written as well.

Really enjoying this. Love the guy who delivers every line like he's advertising Cillit Bang. Amstell (a bloke whose face resembles the reflection of E.T.'s uglier brother, staring into a muddy river) is good, too.

Best episode so far. Because I wasn't a fan of Amstell, I was unsure about this when it started, but I am glad I stayed with it. Really getting to like the characters, and will be sad when it has finished.

Think it's great Simon has an outlet for the whole 'he's just taking the piss out of Buzzcocks guests'. Yes it has a Curb vibe but it's a good move on Simon's part.

I think it is very clever. It deserves more credit than being given.
There really are some great scenes. The characters are very good & so easy to relate to. Although it is not the roll on the floor comedy or cringe comedy of The Inbetweeners or Curb it has a certain charm and is really quite funny.

I seriously hope there is a 2nd series of this. It has improved ten fold each week.

Yes I thought it improved with every episode, and I can laugh at it, but it still isn't my cup of sitcom tea and it is very light, inconsequential, rambling and minor key. I know this is what it aims to be, but that Royale Family type thing isn't for me.

Although funny at times, it is overly crude and vulgar and seems repetitive because of it. It appears very derivative to me and many others (the term 'unorignal' seems to be causing umbrage), and I think Amstell can be fairly criticised for his chosen model.

He has not picked a good year either if he was wanting to pick up any awards for it. The Beeb has excelled its fairly low recent standard with new sitcoms even though they are mainly comedy drama focused. At least they have pulled themselves out of the childishly silly phase they were in.

I'm not sure anyone writes a sitcom with winning awards as their goal! For me, this has actually been my favourite new BBC comedy this year.
