Fair play then Sootyj but I don't think chip will get that.

He'll get everythingthat's coming to him don't you worry...
People have different opinions & it's easy to misinterpret forum posts.
Perhaps some of this discussion would be better in another thread if at all.
It may be a good idea to keep this thread on topic.
I did have an idea for this & am thinking of making a submission.
The way I look at it is it's FREE
So you're not going to lose anything by submitting and if you're lucky you might actually get somewhere, which always looks good on your CV

The voice of reason.
I suggest all those entering should concentrate on making it FUNNY rather than getting hung up on the guide-lines.
It's an opportunity to get your work in front of the people who can make things happen.
Do you really think they're going to read a brilliant pilot then chuck it in the bin because it's slightly off-brief?
Believe me, if you write anything decent you'll get a phone-call.

I don't believe you, Lazzard, because it seems from prior knowledge of these sorts of things that the need to make a winner achieve the brief counteracts how good a script is. In a way it makes sense, if you were entering a photography competition and entered a brilliant drawing, that wouldn't win.
If you believe that Lazzard my advice it to keep submitting (assuming you are a good writer of course...) and see what happens.

Lazzard's knowledge is a posteriori.
And he said slightly off brief not completely.

Plus, I didn't say you'd win - that would piss off all those entrants who'd stuck to the brief.
I said you'd get a phone-call.
These people don't work in isolation - good stuff will get passed on to someone else.
Then you get the phone-call.
'Course you don't want to ignore the brief altogether - that's just bolshy - but 50% on brief and 100% funny is better than the other way round.
And I'm presuming a posteriori means "from the arse"?

Yes, I've had three phone calls after submitting scripts.
What ever?
That's awful. I've had 4 today. Albeit 2 were from double glazing companies, and one was from the police telling me to put my torusers on.
But the point is this, Bushbaby, were they relevant to the competition you were entering?

Just the opposite old bean, means from direct experience but it sounds funny so I used it

Sorry, no they weren't, two were submitted, one to the BEEB and one to Ch 4 and one to Thora Hird.

Thanks, Marc - think my definition is probably closer to the truth.
@Bushbaby - I don't understand your response re: the three phone-calls. Am I being dense?

Don't hold your breath on the Thora Hird one, by the way.
..submitted to Thora Hird.
