Police Squad

I love this show and feel it is deserving of its own thread. Loads of visual sight gags and generally daft, silly humour. Leslie Nielsen was great in it. I have posted some clips which are no more than a couple of minutes long each.

I used to really love this. This is what the yanks do well.

That was when Leslie Nielson played it STRAIGHT and was hilarious (apart from the first 'Airplane' that is). Since then he feels obliged to pull funny faces. So many otherwise great actors, make the mistake of 'gurning' in comedies.

Spot on, everybody. Cigarette?

Yes I know.

The original and best - this show and it's type of humour has been much imitated, but never bettered.

Fantastic stuff.

Watching it on DVD, Love it - so many visual gags and stupid puns. Worth £8 of anyone's money.

Screwdriver?

Big fan of this series. Still notice new things in it. Latest one being the woman throwing her baby before diving to cover in the opening credits (where the flaming guy runs through the police station).

The first episode with the whole 'You shot twice' exchange is amazing!

The directors commentary is really ropey though. Can barely hear it.

"It's a tall order Frank. This is the tuba capital of the world!"

I just love the way they keep such straight faces.

The Twice dialogue was predictably confusing but brillian.

And I love the way Drebben always knocks things over when he parks his car.

Much as love this show there's a real drop off in quality in the last three episodes I think. Still plenty of good gags but the hits rate plumets considerably. The one with the bank teller and the one with the boxer are spectacular though.

I just noticed on the DVD cover the yellow tape reads "Police line donut cross".

It's as funny today as when it first aired 30 years ago. Have it on DVD and there are some decent extras included. Commentary is dire though.
