Sounds like it. But with less torture.

It's torture watching this drivel.

The Beeb need to come up with a new genre.

How about dramedy? That way, I'd know it's more drama with a bit of humour.

Or, like said in earlier posts, call it a play.

If this were a play in a theatre, I would walk out.

If it were a play in a theatre, I would fall asleep.

If it were a play in a theatre, I'd probably be at home, or somewhere other than the theatre it was playing in as I'm not much of a theatre goer.

Watched the first three and think this is really, really good. I'm laughing at it (but then, I'm laughing at Rev which, apparently, is 'not laugh out loud funny'). I think it's excellent but there's obviously something about this subtle type of comedy that works for me, but not others.

As Dolly said, the Kilcoyne girls are doing a very different style than Dogtown, which I also liked (they co-wrote that with somebody else though, this is just the two of them). However, both are/were very character-based and that is obviously their strength.

Love it -- more please. Oh, and it's definitely a sitcom to me, as I'm laughing a lot.

Dan

Rev makes me laugh out loud plenty of times per episode. Roger & Val raises approximately one smile per episode. I'm not saying one is necessarily better, but I think they are pretty different in style.

Liked Rev, it was well made but quite conventional. R & V is bringing back some creativity to our TV screens, and is being daring, in a way. Daring to be dull maybe, but it's showing daily life for what it largely is, and there's an honesty about it. R & V is the best thing I've seen the BBC do for some time. It doesn't matter to me if it's that funny or not, I can watch old sitcoms and sketch shows for big laughs, although I do find this very amusing, it's extremely dry. I just like the fact that something like this is on my TV, and I didn't expect it from the BBC these days, tbh.

'Tis a glorious thing to behold.
No canned laughter.
Pinteresque...
How thoroughly wonderful...and all those who say "Nay".... off you go to BBC3!

No canned laughter.

Like all comedy then.

I'm surprised this is getting so much hate on here. I've watched all of the episodes so far and I've loved it.
I don't get why people are getting so hung up on it not being funny enough, I really don't see this as a problem. The first episodes had me laughing a lot, and even the latest episode had me chuckling.
I admire they way it is set in real time, and just concentrates on real life situations on a minute scale. The comparison someone made to Mike Leighs work is apt.

I see a comedy that isnt funny as a bit of a problem for someone!

If it came under the genre of drama then for me it would be fine - it would be a whimsical, light hearted ok drama.

For me it was just hard work - you know - one of those shows that you look at yor watch and think 'oh no - there are still 10 minutes left' - never a good sign.

But the Beeb categorise it as a comedy - so with my simple nature I expect at least a couple of good laughs. I've decided to reclassify it in my mind as 'not comedy' - this way I will be able to watch it for what it actually is.

If it were a play in a theatre, I would fall asleep.

If it were a play in a theatre I would not go and use the money to get drunk and have a kebab at the end of the night and still keep enough money to buy petrol to burn down the theatre that would allow such tripe.

This. Perfect description.

I don't suppose anyone involved is bothered what people put on forums though. It's got enough great reviews from people who do get it. One thing I do find surprising - that it generates quite so MUCH comment - much of it supposedly from people who don't like it / find it boring etc. So just one question - why are you still watching it?! Don't like - don't watch!

Well Col,that's just the point isnt it...don't like/don't watch.

You must admit that as this is a forum about comedy, when a new 'sitcom' evolves people on here will want to watch it and analyse it, especially when the 2 actors involved are established household names. One tends to watch these things around 3 times - then make a judgement of don't like/don't watch.

There's often one or two weak episodes in a sitcom series - so it would be folly to write it off after one, or even two, episodes.

I watched my last one (half to be exact) at episode 3. Many others will do the same until it finds its 'level'.

Ironically, your comment about being surprised why it generates so much comment makes me laugh more than the show ever has.

Bit of a long shot here but....could it be because this is a forum of a comedy guide website? Dare I say that it may attract people who are interested in comedy - and who wish to pass comment - good and bad?
