Then turn them into factories, with tied houses for the workers, put a bar on the houses being sold off and stop British manufacturers like that traitor Dyson from outsourcing their production to third world countries. That will longer term.
That said, we shouldn't run away with the idea that everybody going to university is a first class mind. Business and industry will tell you that the standard of graduates has declined in recent years. And I've worked with some recent graduates who were shockingly ill prepared for the working environment. The sort of clueless clods who spend half their working day on internet message boards and... oh, wait.

Well done to your son. Mine is off to Oxford Brookes which is handy as his brother has just moved to Oxford. That's one just graduated and one about to start so probably another 7 year drought for my bank account.
