For a show about teenagers, I muuuuch prefer the wonderful Freaks And Geeks. (An American show) The whole partying, drugging, shagging, over wroughtness of Skins just puts me off.

Freaks and Geeks was amazing, especially when you look at the cast and how many of them have become extremely successful.

Yes, as long as it takes the essence of 'youth culture' as a base, it is allowed to sensationalise it. That is drama. Having said that, the issues it shows are really all out there, it's just that this Skins bunch are like the uber group who get all the fun and games. I spose that's TV. Skins is great Britsh TV.

Few that are really current but my off the top of my head favourites/recommendations would be Skins; State Of Play; Our Friends In The North; Queer As Folk; Life On Mars; more retro but great - House Of Cards; GBH; Blackstuff; A Gentleman Abroad; The two LeCarre adaptions; The Organisation - all these are very high quality Brit dramas - I've missed many good ones out I know, and I haven't included period dramas or comedy dramas, but hope it helps.

Cool, I'll have to check those out. I tried Skins already but couldn't get with it at all. Other than the fact that it seemed so juvenile and false, the acting I found impossible to watch.

When I just that saw a thread on Mad Men had been started I thought, "What sort of idiot starts a thread on a show nobody watches!" >_<

It's depressing really, when you've been here that long you forget what threads you've started.

Mad Men is brill. And now they've stopped smoking less this series, there is an extra 15 minutes of story!

For what it's worth, GBH is one of the finest dramas ever on TV.

Best thing on telly at the moment. Finishes this week. As does season 1 of Sons of Anarchy.

I love a bit of mad men. It is a bit slow but once you know what it's all about, you'll love it for what it is.

Don Raper more like!

That could so easily be a description of me.

I seem to remember an episode in season 2 where Don accompanies his boho mistress to a beatnik party that showed a reflection of society outside the confines of Madison Avenue.

As an example of the laid back humour, after they pilloried him for working in advertising Don asked one of the beatniks "What would you do?" ie if you did anything for a living.

On the subject of 'strays' Kinsey has a black girlfriend and is involved in radical politics. He also has a beard - which was a strong statement of radical intent back then that we just can't appreciate now.

Yeah, it's great scene and that guy really knows how to use a pipe.

I do like the actor who played Angel's son in Angel. He's very good in Mad Men.
